My motherboard is making some really weird sounds when the computer is turned off. Usually to get it to stop doing that I have to switch off the power supply.

The noise is kind of like a cricket or frog sound. It starts and stops randomly, and I just don't know what in the world the noise could be.

I have an Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 motherboard, Antec Earthwatts 500w psu, Core 2 duo Conroe 1.8 ghZ OC'd to 3 ghZ, PNY Geforce 8500GT and i'm using onboard sound. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, WoL is located in the power management section of your BIOS. See if its on. Otherwise the PSU *might* be going bad. Just my guess take it with a grain of salt. But I don't like sounds coming from my PSU. The last time I heard a sound from my PSU it was a loud pop. It blew and took my motherboard with it. Hope you get this resolved.

I would say it is a Fan in the power supply cycling on and off. Perhaps it is rubbing on something. The P/S is allways on and has voltage applied to the mb even if the computer is turned off in modern ATX PC's.

I turned off the WoL option in the BIOS but the motherboard is still making that sound. It stops when I switch off the power supply, but i'm weary of doing this for a couple of reasons:

I hear that the cpu can get fatigue if you turn it on and off too much, and that leaving it on is better.
The sound could be a forewarning of worse things to come, or it could just be an annoyance. Problem is, i'm not sure.
I'm not even sure if it's the motherboard or if it's another part. It sounds like its coming from the internal speakers of the mobo but I could be wrong.

I could try taking a sound clip of the motherboard while it's off. Would that help at all?

And thanks for anyone who's replied. I appreciate it.
