I need some help finding a motherboard for the Xeon E5-2665 chip.
I really wanted a dual socket motherboard, but there only 2 available (I think, ASUS and Supermicro). I have never heard of Supermicro, so I am a bit hesitant.
I am not the best at all this stuff, but I am just like any other beginner, just trying to learn and pick up as much as I can.

Another quick question: If I get the MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) motherboard, will I able to use it with the Xeon processor? My first guess is a no.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

While it is possible that one of the big motherboard manufacturers have released bios that would allow you to use the Intel® Xeon® E5's on an X79 board I wouldnt count on it. Here is a list of Intel Server boards that do support the new Intel Xeon E5's.

I don't have the chip or any of my parts yet. I am in the process of building the spec sheet and making sure everything is compatible. I just thought I should run it by the pro's here.

If you can't help, no need to comment. I was just looking for a healthy discussion on whether the MSI board is compatible and what are my options and I see a few people have helped me out and given me links with their suggestions, which is great.

Thanks.

Thank you.
In your opinion, should I just wait till the E7's are out?

I want to build a top of the line system, but I dont want to buy the server from Dell or HP.
I want to custom build it.
