Motherboard for my P4 system

Building a system:
3.4 ghz Prescott
Motherboard - undecided
GPU - 6600gt
Ram - undecided (probable corsair value 1gb)
Hard drive - raptor74gb
PSU - x-connect
Case - a-top alien

To all you AMD fans, I was gonna get a 3500+, but went with the P4 because I do a lot of multitasking. Anything else and I would have jumped on the AMD bandwagon!

first, you may wanna reconsider buying that PSU. lots-o-ppl have been having probs with the new ULTRAs. If you wanna stay with modular, consider the Antec Neopower. There are some other, but can't remember what they are (where is mechBgon when you need him?)

as far as mobo's: Asus' P5AD2 Premium is PIMP! (won maximumPC's mobo of the year) but the cheapest place I can find it is here for $226 (i think s&h is free)

I know the page looks like a system configure-er, but notice the only thing selected is the mobo. However I know nothing about this site and thus can't vouch for them. You'd need to check and make sure they're legit, honest, etc.

Too bad you went with intel, cuz it means I have to look at you with shifty eyes:

( O ) ( O )

......O
Just kidding! It definatelly makes since for what you wanna do with it! Just needed an excuse to use my shifty eyes thing! 😀

dunno what u mean by multitasking? rendering a 3dstuio scene while ripping the latest dvd and playing counter strike source via internet? anything else a amd would do it, i myself got a pentium too, dont call me amd fanboy 🙂 just think that intel is so expensive and power consuming and hot and lacking some sweet features that amd`s already do have like coolnquiet and 1000mhz htt and and and and...ya know? ;9

but if he's using a bunch of programs that use HyperThreding the Intel will win every time. (hey! you and I are conversing in 2 threads at the same time! glad to see I'm not the only nerd burning the midnight oil to write in forums. Unless you're in another country, and then yes, I am the only nerd burning the midnight oil to write in forums. 🙁 )

I humbly bow to your ultamite nerdom 😀 After reading my above post, I decided that I had reached my daily nerdness limit, and went to bed.

I dont think I can purchase this motherboard for that price on the config screen cuz I looked at all their motherboards separately and it was $281 which is a big difference.

I have another question too. I want to be able to install a 16x dvd-rom drive, NEC3520A, floppy, and maybe a fast cd burner but all the mobos coming out right now are making the transition to sata and throwing away all the ide ports. Is there any way for me to install all these drives on these new mobos?

that's only half true. Yes they are moving to sata, but they still have ide ports, so you can still use ide drives. In fact there are only a very few ROM drives that are sata, so ide is still the dominate bus for optical drives.

oh and you may wanna take a look at the rest of asus line up of mobos:

they don't sell direct but you can look at this comparison sheet, find what you want, then find a place to buy. Of corse asus isn't the only option (MSI, Gigabyte, Abit, etc. all make good boards) but they just happen to be my favorite. 🙂

if u buy the 3520 there is no reason for another cd burner as all dvd burners burn cd`s aswell. they dont do that at very best quality but as a nraml user u wont see the differences, so u should only buy one optical device for all burning issues like the 3520, which burns cd, dvd and double layer dvd. btw the only s-ata optical drives i know are from plextor who have pretty good service and burning quality though a much higher price too.

:i liked that shirt 😉.

PS: my advice still was to save some money and get all the nice features (much less power consumption, heat and noise) AMD that makes AMD king of the hill these days: Abit AV8+3500+1GBValueRam,6600gt for AGP,TAgan or Bequiet or Antec PSU,Case, Optical Drive = 1200,-
