I have an unknown socket 370 Gateway board with the 815 chipset. I finally got a CPU for it today, it's a PIII 700. I put the CPU in, found a jumper to jump the power switch pins, plugged a 250watt PSU on the board, and fired it up. Oh yeah, also a 32mb PC100 DIMM is in there too. Well, as soon as the monitor detects a signal, the board goes dead. It just powers off. I have tried this board using the onboard video, a PCI video card, and an AGP video card. I have also tried another PIII cpu from my uncle's computer. I know the CPU is good because I tested it in my uncle's computer.. I've tried resetting the BIOS via the pins/jumpers on the board, but that didn't help. Also tried different RAM as well as difference RAM slots. If i don't put any RAM in the board, it will power up, beep 3 times as expected, monitor recieves a signal, and then the board powers off. Also, I have tried a diferent power supply. Any ideas? I'm stumped!!

It would appear that the motherboard itself is bad... but get some other opinions here first, as I am not totally sure.

I experienced those type of problem a couple years ago and I RMA the board and the problem was solved.

Make sure you have the cpu fan plugged into the cpu fan header on the motherboard. Some motherboards are made to not turn on unless it sees a fan on the cpu fan connector on the motherboard.

Very good point, I'll check that. I thought of that last night, but there was only one fan header close enough for the fan wires to reach, so I assumed that was the one. I'll pay closer attention to that and see if there's something I overlooked. Thanks!
