Motherboard/cpu combo and overclocking question

I just ordered a moberboard(Asus A7V)/cpu (TBird 900Mhz) processor w/ heat sink and fan from Monarch Computers. I want to try to overclock the Athlon and I have read that these processors are locked but can be unlocked using the "pencil trick". Since I know very little about the Athlons and the Taisol fans, do I have to open up the processor? If Monarch Computers install the heatsink, will I still be able to do the modification without destroying the processor/cpu. Should I request that they not mount the fan and cpu? Or do they ship the parts without installing them and that's something that I have to do? Any advice?
Thanks in advance,

Michel

Was this a "Complete System" you ordered? If so, then I am sure it will all be put together, but still, the HS/Fan is easy to take off. You do not have to OPEN the cpu, the L1 connectors are right on top and easy to get to, just hard to see. If it all comes seperate, then all the better. There are many places to get info on the procedures, just go through these threads.

Judah,

Thanks for the reply. No, just motherboard, cpu, and fan. I'm guessing that they will install them together. If they do, then I guess that it won't that difficult to remove the fan. Not too worried anymore. Thanks again.
