Hey,

I'm completely new to Motherboards. What is the differences between the KT266A and XP333-R chipsets? Which one would be better for an XP 1900. I'm not concerned about overclocking.

The KT266A is a really fast DDR chipset from Via that supports PC2100. Its tight timings help it achieve this good performance.
The XP333-R is an iWill board that uses the Ali Magik 1-C chipset. The board supports PC2700 in that you can run at 166 bus while keeping your AGP and PCI at standard speeds.

Since you're not overclocking, the KT266A chipset will be faster at default speeds. I can recommend the EPoX 8KHA+ board, which has the KT266A.

I'm not familiar with the XP333-R chipset, as in not ever hearing about where did you see that at? I know the KT333 chipset..

Just googled the XP333-R, yes I agree with Ionizer86 on it all, and the Epox 8KHA+ is a good board to go with, but there is a couple of other KT266A mobo. out the that people will recommened, the names slips me at this moment.

The 8KHA+ is a crowd favorite, but keep in mind that they will have trouble allowing some GF4 TI4600's to fit properly.

Only the Visiontek has been confirmed to have some problems . Not even all the GF4 Visionteks has problems with the board.

Thanks for the input guys! I have one more question. It concerns GF4 4600 EPoX 8KHA+ issue. Is it likely that this issue will arise with future video cards? As well, does the GF4 4400 fit into the EPoX 8KHA+ ??

I've actually been insterested in getting the EPoX 8KHA+ since a few months ago for the new XP 1900 system i'm putting together, but this GF4 4600 issue has made me reconsider.

It is just the improper placement of a capacitor and honestly I am not sure who's fault it was. I really don't think it will happen again, just because the stink it is now causing.

Soyo DRAGON+ is a really really nice KT266A chipset as well. Has a really nice southbridge.

RAID, Ethernet & sound are all integrated

I believe the southbridge is the same 8233 as on other KT266A boards, but yes, they use separate chips for the sound and raid. They may use the built in networking in the southbridge, but it is possible that they use a separate networking chip. This board is good in that it has lots of stuff If you want raid, sound, and lan, by all means, the Dragon+ is good
