Motherboard causing video card failure? Epox 8RDA+

like it says in the title and summary, my video card ASUS GF4-ti4200 lasts a few months. Symptoms start with picture going black for a second or two once in a while, then eventually the thing fails completely and wont display or shows a checker board pattern only. I'm on my 3rd video card of the same model now and it is just starting to show symtoms. At first I thought this was maybe a bad run of cards (which is still possible), but maybe I have a motherboard which is frying the cards slowly too.

Any other Epox 8RDA+ motherboard owners have this kind of problem? Comments?

I have owned the 8RDA+ and the 8RDA3+
Never had that happen...

I have had that exact setup for a few months. No problems. A string of three bad cards is indeed pretty freakish, so perhaps it is the motherboard. Are you running the motherboard AGP voltage at default 1.5v? Anything overclocked? Perhaps try running the setup at defaults for a while (reset CMOS using jumper). How about trying another type/brand of video card?

Everything is at default stock settings. It tooks 3 or 4 months before my first video card failed... I also lost a stick of RAM too.

Why oinly the Motherboard?

Could be the Power supply (I would bet the PS before the MB)

Yes. psu is more likely culprit. Is the hsfan running?

Or a faulty monitor.

Naw,

I doubt that it is the monitor, I've had it for 4 years and it never caused any problems on either of my earlier two computers.

The power supply may be to blame too. I've got an RMA for my Epox motherboard and I"m going to have it checked out. My power supply is an Antec Smart Blue 350 Watt - it has two fans and both are running fine. I also have a case fan in addition and the side off all the time.

I guess it is process of elimination... but after 3 ASUS video cards failing and 1 stick of memory, it makes sense that either the mother board or the power supply is causing this. Both are good quality, and either could be to blame.
