"Motherboard-Case Adapter"

You know those metal things that come with motherboads that are designed to fit the 'ports' of the motherboard and attach to the case? What are those tiny metal flaps for that seem to get out of the way, and am I supposed to remove them? If so, how? Thanks

I think they are they to ground against the mobo, I leave them on,
