Motherboard BIOS Failure or Video Card?

:frown:I recently downloaded a BIOS Update for my A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard made by ASUS. I also messed with the display with software that came with my video card. I just adjusted somet things. I did not overclock anything, because I know that it ruins things without proper cooling, and well...I dont have proper cooling:D. I then rebooted my computer, and my monitor would not come out of standby, and a message came over my speakers saying that "System failed VGA test." I tried putting the video card in a different slot, and cleared the CMOS, but nothing seems to work. I even called the technical support team about it, and they said they never heard of such a thing happening like this. I tried to put my memory in the B-1 slot, no luck. I tried to clear the CMOS and take the video card out and no luck....I tried everything and no matter what I do I get the "System Failed VGA Test." I tried taking all of my memory out and it said that it said that "System failed memory test."

I have an ATI Radeon X700 series with 212MB of shared video memory...
I have the A8n-SLI Deluxe MoBo
I have an AMD Athlon 64 bit processor(+2500)
I have a 520 watt ATX Power supply.

I just hope there are some ideas out there about this problem I am having...It would be nice to know I don't have to send the motherboard back to the company. Thanks, any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Flash the BIOS back to how you had it.

Don't mess with the BIOS if you're not having a specific hardware problem.

Make sure your video card is plugged into the power supply on it's own line.....nothing else powered on it.

Second make sure the sli selector is on the single card side and that it's firmly in place. It's known to be sensitive.

This problem is common....by the way.......it's generally a setup error, not a true hardware failure/problem.

Ok, the problem is..I didn't flash my old BIOS...how can I get the old BIOS back that I had on the motherboard before I installed the new one? I tried booting it from the cd that it came with, and I didnt have any luck with that either. Hopefuly there is someway I can get the old BIOS on it again. I tried putting my video card in more securely, but that didn't help. It is in a retention clip also, so I dont think it could be loose. So, I just need to know how to get my old BIOS on there and I think I might be up and running again. Do you know how to get the old BIOS on it without having a backup floppy disk? Thanks for your help.

Do you not have a floppy drive? They only cost about $8 you know and they make life much simpler in situations like this. All you need to do is download your original BIOS file from the ASUS website (using another computer I guess) and put it on a formatted floppy. Just put the floppy containing the BIOS version you want to flash (and ONLY that file, nothing else on the floppy) into the floppy drive and boot. Press ALT + F2 during POST and the system will flash to the BIOS on the floppy automatically. If for no other reason than to flash BIOS or boot to DOS for whatever reason, having a floppy drive makes life so much easier in these instances. When I was building my system, I went to ASUS and downloaded every version of the BIOS for my board available and put onto 1 floppy each. Made experimenting and stabilizing my system a relative breeze.

Thanks Alex, I do have a floppy drive, and I did try to do what you said, except for the ALT+F2 during post...I knew that putting it on the floppy disk would work, but I wasnt sure how to get it to boot from it when i get those kinds of errors...So, I will have to try that when I get home

The problem is, I think the VGA Has to work before anything else does, and I can't see anything on my screen, I tried all the versions of BIOS's they had, and they all don't work. I think that something must have fried on my motherboard because of the bios update, or something else, like a virus, but there is no way for me to test my video card or change anything with that computer, because it fails booting up, the fans just run at their fastest speed and my monitor doesn't turn on and it won't boot or do ANYTHING but sit there, and yes i tried the alt thing and it doesn't work for this problem that I am having. Do you think its the video card?

It sounds like you just had the selector card in but not seated properly or you had it in backward. The Bios update had nothing to do with your problem. Many of us are using only one video card.
