Hi all!

Well, guess like many I am the owner of an overclocked 1.1 Amd to 1.296, but all things must come to and end!

I need you help/advice and recommendations! pls!

I am going to build, very soon, a new P4 system... tired am I of hot weather causing me to "detune" my current system, and I need to get bang up to date! And price is "not" an issue here. I will gladly run a 2.533Ghz P4 system stock, as reliabilty is the main issue for me now - getting fussy in my old age!
: -o

K, so, I've been waiting for Intel/Rambus/Gfx cards to develop and here's what I want your advice on.

Will build
P4@2.533Ghz
512Mb RDRAM@1066 (Samsung said on 20th of May that this new spec should be available in 4 weeks, via email to me...)
GForce4 4600
Raid HD's (2) for speed...

Other items aren't so much of a consideration, the only other things that will remain from my current system are is my 19" Triny Mitsubishi and my USB1 devices (Mp3, Scanner, etc.)

At the moment I am thinking Asus "P4T533-C"? - I understand that the USB2 is backwards compatible with my original USB devices right?

Will the Asus board take a GF4600? Or will the GFX card fowl this board like some I have read about!

Probably plan to use another Creative Live Soundcard when I build again.

What's happening with Raid Hard drives these days!! They hardly seem to be featured! Are there other options that perform as well in a standard IDE environment? I recently read an article which seemed to compare certain speeds of a "Maxtor?" drive to SCSI performance, but only in a small category obviously.

So, would you go down the Raid route or not?

Any help you can give would be appreciated, better to share the info than all work in different directions! Again, info on your recommendations for P4 Coolers would be great too, maybe not the best topic heading to put this all in, but the whole thing starts with the M_Board and goes on from that!

Can you imagine how excited I am!!
: -)

Look forward to your input! You spend my money and let me build a fast, reliable and cool running system that will be stable 24/7....

All the best guys!

C ya soon

If price is no object, why not go with 1024MB of RDRAM? ;) Really, though, you'd be better off sticking with "only" 512MB, unless you do a lot of video editing or 3D design and rendering. Then, take the money you saved, and buy something else that's really nice, like a better video card, or whatever else you might like. Other than that, I won't comment, since my experiences have only been with AMD systems (and older Intel Celeron systems, but that doesn't count).

Thanks jliechty...

I do see your point, I am running 512Mb at the moment and it seems to suite my purpose, but do change this fairly regular regardless!

I don't suppose the 2.5Ghz CPU will stay in the case too long as the benefit of waiting for the *478-P4 was a future bolt-in of a newer CPU without any other mods!

The P4 has some considerable headroom, so I reckon in 7-9 months time there'll be a G-force5 and a 3.3Ghz CPU available (Or there abouts)...

So far I am thinking that maybe this ain't posted in the right area!

But thanks for your input, every little helps me, especially when you think about my future outlay even considering what I can get for my current machine!

B4now, will keep checking back!!

Cheers Athlon4all!

Was beginning to think my Microphone wasn't on!!
:)

That's the Motherboard and RDRAM sorted, just the issue of whether I use plain IDE drives, or go for a setup using 2 Raid drives in Array for speed!

Thx a 1,000,000
