Motherboard and CPU

Well I was looking at newegg and ran across this CPU What I was thinking is if it would work in my Asus P4P 800 Deluxe Motherboard I would be able to streach this system out a bit longer. I have been wanting a duel core system for awhile but not really ready to do a motherboard swap if I dont have to.

So would that CPU work in my system?

contact your mobo manufacturer to see if this chip will be supported on your mainboard. you can also contact intel and see what they might have available for compatibility, however I'm pretty sure they will just make you buy a new board from their vendors.

update your bios and cross your fingers if you're too lazy to contact your parties.

Thats a core duo, it will not work in your motherboard. They are electricaly incompatible. You could use the CT-479 adaptor and get a banias or dothan pentium-m, but it doesn't work with yonah.

No. Yonah is not pin-compatible with older Socket 478 P4 motherboards.

I was poking around on Newegg and looking at the two Yonah boards (the Aopen one and the matx Asus one) and noticed that they're both 479-pin boards. Yet, all the Yonah procs on Newegg are the 478-pin variety.

Can you use 478-pin Yonah procs in 479-pin Yonah-compatible boards?
