Hi,

I am looking to buy a motherboard with RAID and power on after reset functions. Please can anyone recommend a board?

BTW - I am looking to spend as little as possible.

Thanks.

Ben.

Sorry, AMD Socket A prefferably but I dont have a prefference. I suppose about £150 , not sure what that is in $ tops for the board and processor. Dont care if its intel or amd i suppose - dont even want a fast processor as its only going to be an intranet server. But need raid for mirroring and wakeup on power reset as its off site. Both are important.

I think the Epox 8K5A2+ or 8K5A3 would be a good choice.

I know the 8K5A2+ has Wake On Power Reset and Wake On Lan.

8K5A2+ has RAID support, and the 8K5A3 is about the same thing, but is able to hold more RAID devices.

Great thanks - I love Epoz boards - glad to know they do one that supports what I want!

What are other manufacturer alternatives though as EPOX can sometimes be a bit hard to get in this country.

If You want a system to last for more than 6 months to a year i would Recommed Intel motherboard chipset and proccessor and a Raid Card . I have tried 3 differnt motherboards abit biostar and a gigabyte ga7vrxp Junk !! They all had raid built on them and all went BAD within 2 to 11 months . Just t elling you my experinces with via and AMD I WOULD RUN FROM THEM ! I THINK THEY HAVE OVERHEATING PROBLEMS BECAUSE MY INTEL RUNS MUCH COOLER , i had 3 Fans in my case on the amd mess still ran 55 degrrees . Got tired of wasting my Money , they are cheaper , but man what torchure patches patches and still big problems , No more Via for me

Just because you don't know how to build a computer does not mean everybody else is the same.

I have used VIA and AMD chipsets and never had a problem and they all run well with in temp. spec.

I am running DUAL Athlons right now and they run cool and 100% stable

Remarks like that won`t win you many friends,I`ve gone from Intel to AMD, using a 2 year old MSI board & 1 year old Epox board(both AMD/VIA) still going strong & rock stable.

Since the 80's huh, what were you building 8086's :)

Just because you built a xyz computer last year does not mean you know anything about what is out NOW. I know mechanics that have been working on cars longer than I have been a live, and I know more about Fuel Injection and computer control systems then them. They didn't keep up.

So either keep up, or just go away.
