That was the last straw for me. I won't speak to that woman again so long as she's alive.

This all stems from the fact that we won't be her ATM when she needs money for rent.

Reminds of 4 years ago when I was getting on her over email to get a job. It had been a year since my FIL died and we knew her life insurance money was almost gone. She got very uppity with me over email and said I should be careful not to get on her bad side because I would "regret it." I said "are you threatening me? I'm trying to motivate you to get a job and you're threatening me??"

Haha I should give my wife this thread, she might dislike my mom a little less (my MIL/FIL are awesome). My mom's annoying, and it's hard to determine whether she's a bitch or she means well, but she's NOTHING like that.

Sucks about your MIL though. Sucks double for your wife, don't forget that.

I told my wife her mother cannot watch our kids alone anymore and she is not to come to our house while I'm there. That's about all I can do. I can't forbid my wife from her own mother, nor would I try. Happily, my wife and I are in complete agreement what a bitch her mother is being and we're always on the same side regarding this.

Good god, CoW...your MiL is almost as crazy as waggy's MiL. Only reason why I consider her worse is that in waggy's case he actually got false child protective service complaints on him.

Kind of sad but not surprising that the MiL, in trying to get sympathy or at least guilt-tripping, has to bring up childhood or past issues while completely ignoring the $175k + that she blew (which doesn't come nearly close to the diapers bit that she saved).

Shame that she can't handle money well.

It's obvious she's sick. Has anyone tried to get her to see a shrink/counselor? I know you can't force her, unless you want to go the route of having her declared incompetent but, I would have made this a requirement of any dealings with her a long time ago.

She probably took out a life insurance policy on your ass. Make sure to swap coffees when she isn't looking.


My mother in law is pretty cool. Although she's weird sometimes, and kind of has an overly negative worldview in general.

Damn, this reminds me of my mother. Ugh, I, my Mom is a manipulative, guilt-tripping, drama-inducing, attention whore. I love my mom because, well, hell, she's my fucking mom. But I hate her actions. I'm glad my Dad doesn't live with her anymore. I have no idea how my Dad could keep up his sanity all those years.

Lesson learned from my parents' relationship? Don't marry an attention-whoring hot chick. They only last until they turn 45ish, and it's living hell from there.

I told my parents I won't be inviting them to my wedding because all it'll cause is fucking more drama. I don't want that BS on my wedding day. My mom doesn't deserve the right to see her son's wedding, and I can't invite my dad because I'm not inviting my mom.

Not only did my mother-in-law watch our two kids today she also put away the toys, cleaned the kitchen, did the dishes, did the laundry, and then made meatloaf and baked potatoes for dinner. I may not agree with her politically but besides that, she is great.
