Mother arrested for abuse of 4 year old

She says she didn't have money, but she sure looks well fed.

PACE ? A 19-year-old woman is charged with neglecting a 4-year-old who required hospital treatment.

Erin Brittany Markes of Andrea Lane was arrested Friday for child neglect with great bodily harm, a felony.

Santa Rosa County sheriff?s investigators say the boy was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Sacred Heart Hospital and had a body temperature of 91.1 degrees.

He had a pre-existing condition and was supposed to be on medication, but lawmen say doctors found no traces of it in his system. They said he also had bed sores and weighed only 10 pounds.

Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Haines confirmed the 10-pound figure late Friday. "That's why it's felony neglect," he said.

The boy is still hospitalized, his condition improving, Haines said. Markes was being held Friday night at the Santa Rosa County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Even if you don't have money, there are far too many avenues of assistance to think this would be acceptable. Something is seriously wrong with her.

My 2 year old is almost 30 pounds, and is wearing 3-year-old+ clothing...10 pounds is just sad.

Defending people like this would make me ill

luckily the shitty public defender she will get won't really give a crap

this kid is fucked. no doubt the lack of nutrition will cause him various health problems throughout his life.

I remember a seeing a clip of a trial where the judge said "okay, 10 years." and the defense attorney corrected the judge saying "I thought you said 15." and the judge took the correction of 20 years.

...I hope the trial for this one ends like that.

That is one of the saddest things that I have read. My son was more than that at birth. I can't imagine him weighing that now (he is 4 coincidentally). I think that he is jacked for life and will need constant medical treatment if he is able to survive this.

I hope that the mother is capable of truly understanding what she did and that it haunts her for the rest of her life.

That poor kid.

Something is seriously wrong with our country. There's a story at least daily about people killing, torturing, neglecting their little kids and they often involve someone who had the children far too young.

I go home and my 5 year old son and 4 year old daughter look at me with such pure innocence, trust, and love and I cannot fathom how someone could do such horrible things to little kids.

Sure, sometimes they're a handful and cause huge amounts of stress but if I didn't want the stress I should've worn a condom.

I guess more and more people are just totally unwilling to grow the fuck up and act like decent human beings, let alone adults.

Best thing to do is put all this out of mind and go watch the box in the living room that glorifies sex and violence.

Where was the father, or any other family member?

I was thinking this too.
I can't understand how people can have children like this and nobody else notices.

In the video they say the boy had medical problems, but still thats no excuse.
The mother was also receiving social security of 600.00 per month for the boy and earned 200.00 per week as a baby sitter ?

I would be horrified if she was my babysitter.

This chick will have a great time in prison. I can only imagine what the other women will do to her.
