Well, I still have the CMOS checksum bad message. Every time I want to start up, I have to clear the CMOS. I changed the bios battery. No go. Had bios 1010, but flashed down to 1009 thinking that would fix it, but it still issues warning. It still wont save my bios settings. When I exit and save, the screen will shut of and I have to reboot by clearing cmos. The fans will still be running though. This is becoming a pain!!! Also what is the fastrack controller? It says there is no bios installed. In the bios setup it says I have AMI bios 1008. But in bootup it says I have 1009. Seems like this computer is confused. Im thinking i should just order a new bios chip from ASUS with 1009 on it. Any help to fix the problem would be appreciated.

by the way, i can play all my computers with no problem so it cant be possibly a bad mobo, right? I think i started having the problems after i flashed the bios in the windows environment. I flashed it to 1010, then to 1009 because of the occurence of the problems. It says in the bios setup I have AMI bios 1008. In windows it says I have 1009.

... or simply time to move the "CMOS Clear" jumper to "Normal" position.

dumb me, RMA time is sending it back! What if I ordered a new bios chip with 1009 on it. When I got my chip flashed from 1007 to 1008, the computer started working. I asked ASUS to put 1009 on it but they didnt because it was still beta.

That's precisely what Peter was talking about. It should be in the Normal position. Put it in the Normal position and reflash the BIOS. That should take care of it. With the jumper in the Clear position, it is "Clearing" the BIOS/settings each time.

It would probably boot and act just like it does now. You MUST have it in the Normal position. As mentioned, you might want to reflash the BIOS too. If you want to get a new BIOS chip reflashed for you, you can visit BadFlash.com.

SET THE JUMPER TO NORMAL LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO. Then see the error one more time, enter BIOS setup as prompted, save and exit. Done.

This isn't even a BIOS ROM checksum error.

As Peter mentions, it's probably not necessary if you put the jumper in the Normal position, reboot, enter BIOS, change settings, save the settings and boot. Do that before you pay for something you might not need.

the problem with that is that once i exit bios the screen goes off and the green light starts blinking (no image) So I have to hold the power button to shut off. Then to boot up again, I have to clear the cmos
