Though technically South of the Mason-Dixon line, I should have discounted those as possibilities. Same goes for Northern VA.

Almost any city in Florida (excluding the panhandle) is pretty Yankee-friendly.

EDIT: Actually, what do you mean by "Yankee friendly"?

ive lived in the panhandle since i was 3yo. never seen any anti-yankee sentiment towards me, my parents, or any relatives that have moved here, or anyone for that matter. only time ive heard the word yankee used in a negative tone was a grizzled old fisherman. when i said i was born in ohio, he looked stunned.

im sure there are those that are holed up in a rickety shack in the middle of the woods that still cling to that yankee crap, but the days of it being a damn yankee type of thing are gone, IME.

Atlanta. Almost everyone you meet here is from "up north". You'd fit right in.

Well, I should qualify that most cities in Florida tend to be populated with transplanted Northerners. The panhandle seems to be the exception to that rule. That doesn't make it "anti-Yankee", but it's definitely a different crowd in, say, Pensacola, than in Orlando.

Any city will be fine ... in my travels the discrepancy isn't that large, unless, of course you venture deep into the countryside, and even then it is mainly the indecipherable accents that'll get to you.

I've been to Huntsville, AL many times and they seem pretty yankee-friendly. Skoorb lived there for a while, maybe he'll chime in.

If you are concerned about "anti-yankee", you don't have to worry about it except in the boonies (except as friendly jibes, perhaps). If you are concerned about overall worldview i.e. you'd like to find non-nascar, non-racist, non-trailer, non-biblethumping, non- well, you get the idea. - look for a college town - chapel hill was mentioned. Obviously all of the above exist everywhere in the US (and even in europe even though it's not polite to mention). It's just a matter of finding a place that is not overrun or in the process of being overrun by that mindset.

I 2nd Atlanta. I might move there next year.

Sarasota, FL is a pretty laid back, liberal place. Lots of retirees from up north.

RTP NC, Charlotte NC, Atlanta GA are the three biggest areas between GA and NC. All have large populations of northern transplants.
