My old D-Link router died. We really needed one that could cover the whole house anyhow. It has to be 2.4ghz to work with the current adapters on our PCs. It also needs to have 4 ports for a wired connection to the PC in the same room as the router.

Looking for:
2.4ghz
4 port
Longest range/strongest signal
Good for gaming

Any suggestions guys? I'm about to try searching on my own, but I always appreciate the feedback of AT users.

It's the "b" standard. 802.11b I think.

Can you link Selene?

Are "g" standard routers also compatible with slower adapters on the PCs themselves?

Netgear WAPs are powerful, they have a 3dB antenna compared to most 2dB and 2.5dB. However no wireless connection will be good for gaming. You are better off with wired for this purpose.

Hence why I asked that it include 4port wired. My PC is in the same room as cable modem. I make SURE I have the optimal connection for gaming.

I just didn't make that clear, sorry guys!

EDIT: Thanks for the Netgear tip. I'm browsing newegg now for one.

You can swap out the antenna's on a lot of models I've seen. Search the web for router antennas.

True, if you can twist off (with ease) the antenna then an external antenna can be attached easily. Even c*usa sells these external high gain antennas these days, no need to even build one yourself.
