Here's my setup: http://anandtech.com/mysystemrig.html?rigid=626
As you can see I'm overclocked and the 4200 Ti was overclocked about 5 mhz, now normal.

My situation is that in Windows XP if I xdcc in mirc or download via bittorrent I get a BSOD with the message about IRQL IS LESS THAN OR EQAUL... etc...

but if I run XChat or BT in Linux I do not get any issues.

In windows I can do anything else and never get a blue screen, play games endlessly, photoshop endlessly, encode, download via FTP, download via HTTP, with no problems at all.

I've replaced the NIC already and it hasn't solved the problem. I don't want to rebuild the whole system so it would help if we could narrow it down.

IRQL errors tend to be driver related. Which driver? good question. Make sure you have the latest chipset, video, nic and sound.

I did a quick search on this problem and it seems to be very common. Unfortunately everyone who solves it seems to solve it differently. Most common solutions were Anti-Virus software conflicts and irq sharing. So I would reccommend that you turn off your av for a test. If that doesn't work try disabling everything that you do not use in BIOS. You can save a lot of irqs by turning off any serial, usb, firewire, printer, or game ports that you do not use.

I've updated all my drivers except chipset. I'll try that when I get home..

I thought it was this too, but I've done that before (even physically took out the sound card and moved the nic to different slots) but still the same. I'll try turning off my norton antivirus, but I'm almost certain that I've tried with a clean install of windows xp. I've been struggling with this problem for over year. I just boot into linux whenever I need to download anything off irc/bt now :frown:

Post the whole stop code (Stop A or 50 most likely) and parameters. Also include any driver mentioned.

holy sh*t, I turned off NAV and so far (3 hours) and it's worked..... I pray that that was the fix because seriously I've had the problem for like 2 years and just booted into linux to download anything I wanted off bt/irc... you sir deserve a :gift:

Just for backup, I also read about the NAV having that problem, search MS and/or Symantec site and you'll find it... It's old---it should have been fixed in an patch of NAV IIRC. Perhaps that patch never got installed?

Weird.
