Friend and I got talking and I say it's a shotgun in the mouth, he says it's jumping off a tall building. My take on it is that the fright while falling = pain, and that unless you land right on your head you'll have a moment or two to reflect on it while you die from massive bleeding and blunt trauma. Thoughts? How about without a shotgun at hand?

The shock of falling from a tall building kills you instantly. BLAT.

Some people blow their faces off with guns and survive. That would be awful.

As long as your building is tall enough, that way is fool proof.

I'm told carbon monoxide poisoning is relatively painless. You just drift off and lose consciousness. There's a bonus as well: You leave a good-looking corpse since carbon monoxide poisoning tends to give you a rosy complexion. :p

I know a girl who took a .410 shotgun to her head after her mother died. Loaded a, pulled the trigger, and is still with us today. She spent a year in Vanderbilt Psych, and she's a different person today. Happier and fun to be around, and I'm thankful everyday that she didn't succeed.

I'll rather freeze to death... i hear it's like falling asleep... you just get tired and want to close your eyes, then that's it.

Yup, you just go to sleep. Falling from a building is NOT a painless way to die. You suffer.... screaming all the way down and the increasingly anxious feeling you get as you see the ground coming closer and closer...

You suffer. Your extremeties get so cold that they feel like they're burning off. Your joints ache.

How could she NOT kill her self? What happened?

i hear that right after you run out of oxygen while drowning, tons of endorphins are released into your blood stream to make you feel real good all over. i guess looking up under water to see the sun rays and being high on life wouldn't be that bad.

That's if you keep your core temp warm enough to survive.

I suppose so, but as you reach death you're more tired than cold from what i've read.

They suspect that somehow the angle of the gun changed as she pulled the trigger, and the slug missed her brain by millimeters.

Unless you're frozen in something like liquid nitrogen or something, your extremeties will freeze first.

She's still an extremely beautiful girl with only a scar on her head that is covered up by her hair.

Sorry but trying to breathe water is not comfortable in the least. In The Abyss one of the characters asked how it feels like to go into hypothermia (you have to drown first). The description was not all that inviting. I don't think they'd make that part up, even if it's for a movie. What would be the point ?

They obviously made it up. Hypothermia does not require drowning.

You don't have to drown to get hypothermia. Hypothermia is an internal body temperature of below 95F.

If I did it it would be fool-proof.

Find a nice grain elevator (they're really tall) where trains regularly pass through & climb up to the top & take two pistols with you. Put the pistols up to either side of your head (or head & heart) and then tip yourself off the building while a train is coming. You could either shoot as you tilt off the building or on the fall, if you think you can do so. Either way, put the two rounds into yourself before you hit the ground so either way you're almost guaranteed to die. If not, the train will take care of that.

That's not one of those sissy, "cry for help" suicide attempts, by the way. :D

Then I simply misunderstood the scene... cause she was panicing and didn't want to die... but the water was rising up and she had no choice but to take it in.

It raises the question though... what if you drown before reaching hypothermia ? Can you be saved from hypothermia because it looked like she drowned first. Regardless, I don't know how anyone would think drowning would be comfortable.

Jumping off any building is not foolproof.
What about the people who skydive, and live through their parachute failing?
