Don't respond with Transformers or Independence Day.
Think of terms of rave reviews, and all those art student friends of yours hyping up a movie.
For example, I think of these movies:
-Fight Club. It was refreshing. But I can't watch it over and over again like so many people do.
-Natural Born Killers. Seriously, it was like keystone cops.
-The original Gone in Sixty Seconds. Again, keystone cops chasing the original Eleanor.

I agree about Fight Club but everyone has their own preferences.

I'll come back when I think of some overrated films.

Forest Gump- I just found it really boring
Italian Job- forgettable rip of Oceans 11
Oceans 11- the original was a lot better, methinks
Shawshank Redemption- touching, but not really all that deep
Saving Private Ryan- Hollywood war movie

you liked the original ocean's 11 better? the one where the rat pack discarded the script and mailed it in after 20 minutes? that's hated even by rat pack fans.

Critically? I don't understand why Titanic won so many awards. That movie dragged on for so damn long.

Overhyped by my peers? Napoleon Dynamite. It had its funny moments but most of it was just plain annoying.

This one. I think I laughed maybe one time in that entire movie, but everyone at school ran around quoting random ass shit from the movie as though it were the best film ever. I knew at least 3 different people who had "Vote for Pedro" T-shirts... The movie was NOT good.

Napoleon Dynamite has to be one of the most divisive movies I've seen. I thought it was funny... I don't go around quoting it, but I've seen it a few times and I liked it. But man, there are a lot of people out there who seem to HATE it!

As for the movie I'd consider the most overrated, here are a few:

- The Thin Red Line
- No Country For Old Men
- Almost all of those 3D animated movies (they're fine for kids but I have no idea why adults seem to like them so much)
- Scary Movie. I know a lot of people disliked most of the movies in the series, but I only saw the very first one and hated it, yet a lot of people seem to like it.

I've got a Vote for Pedro hat. I'm not that big of a fan of the movie (I like it though), but the hat is the most comfortable one I've ever owned and I like the blue color. Its pretty faded at this point though, so I kinda need a new hat.

For me personally, hmm. Iron Man. It was good, about in line with the first Spider-Man movie and X-Men 1 & 2, but it was nowhere near as good as either the box office or critics rated it. I'd give it 75%. I also thought both The Prestige and The Illusionist were incredibly average. Oh, and everything Judd Apatow has touched.

There Will Be Blood. I watched 10-15 painful minutes of it. IM'd a buddy about how much it sucked, got warned not to watch more; that it didnt' get any better. I took his word for it. Honestly, unless the 15+ minute text of this movie is "Lol sorry, we were just kidding. It doesn't actually suck this much dick", it's T--H--E most overrated movie of all time.

Least overrated: American Beauty. Easily the #1 alltime, yet it's slipping to almost #40 and below on IMDB. WTH?

You don't get the privilege of declaring a movie overrated until you watch the whole thing.

If it's not interesting within a quarter hour, I've wasted a quarter hour.

There will be Blood has to be the most overrated movie of this decade followed by No Country for Old Men.
