WTF. your list sucks.

DiCapprio and Depp are very very versatile actors.

overrated ---> DeNiro, Duvall, Pacino, and some of the actors of Casino. They're seasoned actors yes, but they always play one role, and always have that one same character that they can play.

Hanks, Depp, Dicapprio (watch Aviator, Catch me if you can) are extremely versatile and talented. They can play many many roles seamlessly. Those are real actors instead of actors who play their seasoned persona.

I agree w/ your female selection since they always play their same roles and always have that same distinctive voice/body movements.

umm, DeNiro and Pacino are amazing actors. Watch Scent of a Woman. Pacino's ability to convey emotion despite the fact he can't use his eyes is just amazing acting. Watch DeNiro in Godfather II, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver. There's a reason why he's considered one of the best actors of all time.

I love Pacino and DeNiro. I absolutely LOVE their movies. I love their characters. It's just that the characters they potray is always very similar to each other. That's all. They portray these characters sooo well, and soo convincingly, BUT, they're all so similar. That is what I meant. Of course, "overrated" is such a harsh word in the vocabulary, but I really meant it in a literal sense. That is all. I know my comment can be taken in the wrong way.. ah well, heh.

err, no, but even if you believe that, there's no way that they're overrated if they can portray characters so convincingly. Your criteria for overratedness sucks.

I think most comedic stars are overrated, I hate how Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler are loved so much even though they suck at acting.

People don't love them for their acting...

Keanu Reeves <- I just hate him. Speed, Matrix #1 good. but the guy went on an ego trip after matrix. I still remember him from Bill and Ted

The critics still consider Keanu a joke, no?

How much an actor/actress gets paid or grossed is meaningless.

Good starting point if it's overrating with respect to popular appeal that we're talking about...

all of em.

Best answer, hands down.

However, if I had to choose one, it would definitely be Edward Norton.

edward norton is a great actor! watch 25th Hour and The Heist.

Hey, I didn't say he wasn't a great actor. I said he was overrated. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Tom Cruise is the fourth highest grossing actor on the planet. Julia Roberts is the top grossing woman and 9th overall. Johnny Depp is 25th overall. So if they are over-rated, movie goers and Hollywood doesn't agree with you. If your good, your movies make money, plain and simple.

i'm sorry but there's no way i can go along with THAT. if you use that criteria then somebody like will smith has got to be one of the greatest of all time

(I understand that the last one will get some disagreements...try not to confuse her talent with her sweet rack)

"sweet racks" are highly overrated too. but that's a different topic ! 😀

How dare you put Jennifer Connelly on that list. Her boobies can act better than everybody on that list.

What did you think of his performance in Ali? Six degrees of separation? Legend of Bagger Vance?

No doubt, only one on actor is on my list and it will stay that way for all time.

NO ONE COMPARES IN OVERATEDNESS TO...

Gregory Peck

The End.

No way is DiCaprio overrated. Try not to think about his portrayal in the media for a second (ie, partyboy and heartthrob to young teenage girls) and just consider his acting. He is a damn good actor. Same for Johnny Depp.

No doubt. They've earned all of their accolades, which didn't come quick, over years of very hard work. Especially Depp, who's one of the most versatile gutsy actors in hollywood.

Please don't compare Leonardo to Johnny.

That is like comparing 50 cent to the real 50 cent.

like CZ's compared to diamonds.

like a McChicken to a Wendy's spicy chicken.

....

I assume I can stop now.

There are two of them?
Or did you mean, "Compare 50 cent to a 50 cent coin", with the implication that the latter is clearly superior?
Sorry, not very familiar with the rap scene...

That is something people will never ever understand...

Surely many people will make the same mistake by the end of this thread...

DiCap is a good actor. He's just queer to me and I don't like him. He also looks a little young for his age. So I try to ignore his movies because of my shallow prejudice against him. Sue me.

John Depp I think is a very good actor. His range is amazing and he just has that comforting confidence that you see from the natural movie stars. The only problem with him is that he's a little off in the head. He also likes to take "risks" when he picks his scripts and he always has to be the one big star and vocal point in the movie.

Helen Hunt also has that confidence, but she doesn't have the range or doesn't have that charismatic image as the others. Though I don't think she's over rated.

I agree with everything else you said. Especially Ben Affleck. He's a great guy off the screen (when he keeps his mouth shut from politics), but man, his acting is horrid. He has one image, he has no range, and he has no believable expressionism. His face stays almost the same way in every situation.
