Most of the Al Qaeda prisoners are Chechen

I guess the Bush admin won't be telling Putin to back off on Chechnia anymore. From the UP article, it quoted an Afghan commander saying that all 60 prisoners taken so far have been Chechen. And most of the forces consisted of Chechens and members of the former Soviet republics, along with Arabs.

That is very scary stuff. No wonder Russia was quick to jump on board with us. Just where was US Intelligence during all that time? I guess we'll have to wait for the fighting to die down before the other shoe drops on the CIA.

I guess you will have to ask slick willie that one. They were working there asses off stopping a lot of crap you and I will never hear about. No one thought they were needed and their ranks were cut. This was all discussed in the months after the sept. 11th terrorist attacks.

Despite my total disdain for the slick one, we must give credit where credit is due. The military and goverment drawdowns or right sizing or reformation or whatever was started by Bush Sr. After the gulf war there was an amazing amount of pressure to reap some sort of a "peace dividend". The parts of the goverment that were necessary to fight the cold war, CIA and military for example, were quickly ( too quickly) drawn down. The problem was exasperated by the Clinton administrations disdain for the military/CIA and their refusal to do anything until the latter part of willies second term, but make no mistake, Bush Sr and co. put it all in motion. During the mid 90's if one more person had said " Chief, you're just going to have to do more with less" I would probably have relieved him of his teeth. IMO a great part of our intelligence failure leading up to 9/11 can be equally shared between the two prior administrations.
 
I'm surprised that the Russians haven't formed death squads and just gone through towns liquidating all of the Chechens they can find. If people think Afganistan is bad, try Chechnya.
 
Chief, I suprised you ran into that. I was under the impression that you guys got almost everything you needed. I though it was the surface fleet that had most of the shortages.

How do you know that they haven't?
You need to watch "Prisoner of the mountains".
Those Interior Ministry troops aren't up there baking cookies.

You know there's a money problem when even the Trident program was fighting for every scrap.
 
Is it just me or was the B2 a huge waste of money.
It's too expensive to be allowed to execute it's mission, which is to fly unexcorted deep into enemy territory. When Kosovo was bombed, they flew with a several fighter and radar jammer excorts, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of stealth bomber. B52 does the same job 10 times cheaper and better.
