Most non-invasive way to check number of ram slots filled

I'm trying to tell a friend from school what type/how much ram to get for her laptop. We're going back to school next week so i can install it for her, but for now, I need to find out how many of her laptop ram slots are filled.

I don't think she'd be comfortable opening the laptop. She's on a really slow internet connection, so I was looking for a small program to download. Crucial's website has a 170KB program that runs and tells you in a browser what to get, but I was looking for something simpler than that.

Any ideas?

anything smaller than those? i'm ideally looking for something smaller than 170KB (thats how big crucial's is). maybe some little few KB app someone wrote for this taht someone's stumbled upon? ive searched around for something like that but its hard to phrase in a search what it is. thanks

Wow, how slow could her internet connection be? Even on a 14.4, she can get that in a min.

HWInfo32 is a nice little program that I like to help tell me hardware info in a system, and it does tell how many slots are used for ram(and size), but it's about 1.8 meg, so it's well over your file size limitation.

Still, it coves the whole system and gets regular updates. :)

Yeah, 170kb is small... even the modem they used in Hackers could download that!

I'm guessing her boot-up screens are hidden? The "second page" shows which slots are populated. Pressing Pause/Break will freeze it if it displays too quickly.

I doubt they're visible on a laptop though.
