One of the most abused words is probably, which I see as prolly, a word that does not exist.

<< And what is "prolly"? Should be "probably" >>

AHHHH!!! You have hit on a major online pet peeve of mine. I can't stand when people use "prolly" for "probably," or "proggie" for "program."

hehe it doesn't really bother me, but I'm surprised this one hasn't been mentioned:

a lot is TWO words, not one. :)

As long as I can understand what the person is trying to say, no big deal. I am anal about my own spelling, but to each his own.

I especially get annoyed at people who pronounce the word incorrectly.

People confusing "have" (or the shortened version "'ve") and "of"

For instance, they say: "I would of done that if I didn't have school today"

Heh...I've always liked the word irregardless. :)

Edit- and you know, so long as we're being over technical, here's another one for you all: hopefully is used incorrectly almost all of the time, though the definition has effectively changed because of this. It was originally intended to mean, "full of hope," not "with hope" as it is most commonly used.

Hopefully it'll officially get changed soon, though. Heh.

'lol' is a very common word in Dutch. 'lol hebben' means as much as 'having fun'

heh, you didn't say you meant an English dictionary :D;)

my spelling sux and I know it. Therefore I tend to be forgiving of spelling errors, though I do find misuse of there-their-they're and similar errors annoying. I will often use a dictionary to check, but that takes time. A spell check utility for the reply funcution would be nice.

I nearly learned to spell back in '86 when I was using a PC word processor with a spell check, but it started with only a 4000 word dictionary. It was easy to add words but I had to look up in a paper dictionary every word it flaged. I looked for the word "envelope" for 2 hrs under the "i"s ! I now know how to spell it.
