Of all the PM's I've received, one stands out for being the most off-the-wall. I don't want to make this a call-out thread so the sender will remain nameless. The original PM didn't have the bad words camouflaged.

I don't get PMs on AT. I've had one ever about beer, which is all well and good, but nothing fantastic...

I got PMed on IRC once by a friend of mine, an honest to God friend, someone I went to school with and saw every day, with "A/S/L." I asked him what the hell that was about and he got all embarrassed and said "Oh, wrong window, sorry..." We're not friends any more, probably because I never stopped making fun of him for that.
 
From my friend who posts here: "I want to walk to this italian restaurant downtown and fuck this waitress brains out in public ... maybe get arrested, but fuck it."
 
i didn't save it, but i think the PM that came to my mind was one where a guy told me his wife had told him their marriage was over. he was totally distraught.

i've also gotten PMs from people periodically whose username i don't recognize but they PM me and harass me like they know who i am.
 
I actually have a really good addition for this thread. 🙂

A couple of years ago I was working as a contractor for a marketing firm that was running a couple of contests as promotions. One was for a local White Pages company, and I decided that I would do my best to ensure that a member of the AnandTech Forums won it. As it turns out, a member here did! Here was the PM:

Sully, I wanted to thank you for posting the 'white pages' contest. I happened upon this website searching Blingo for Enter To Win in Raleigh, NC, and I found the contest about week 2-3, and entered the first week and forgot until the last to enter again, but I WON $ 1,000. for the last week (May 9). I just wanted to say thanks because I have been living for over 5 years waiting for disability approval with no income, so this was a God-send, and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated it!
