i picked up a JVC unit from Best buy for $161.. Pretty decent so far.. Better than my old rockford fosgate one.. Jensen makes some cheap ones as does aiwa.. Pioneer has one for $240- I couldn't justify the price difference but it's definately NOT a value (i.e. crap) line- full featured and pretty reasonably priced too..

Anybody know anything about the BOSS 3080r , 3060r , or 3030r ?

It is going for $99-140 at ebay and does MP3, 50-60watts a CH(that is max NOT RMS), and looks pretty good for the price and name.

Perhaps you should change your title/question to...
"What's the cheapest decent car mp3-CD player?"

Initial inclination is: Steer clear.

Thats what I was thinking but I have seen what they look like and read the specs and they seem pretty good.

The reason I ask is someone broke into my car the other night and stole my old JVC headunit :(

I can't find any reviews, but I know someone has used one of their MP3 units, somewhere???

Stay away from BOSS.. Unless you're my retarded couisn that things that they're the same company as Bose.. Stick with JVC for a cheap (less than $200) HU and Pioneer for quality.. Ebay has a lot of MP3s in the $150-200 price range - if you're buying used stay away from Boss, Jensen, Aiwa, etc.. If you're buying new from a store (warranty, 30 day return policy) you could give them a try..

OH yea, if I get a off name like Boss it has to have a one year warrenty.

BOSS main site

Here are the CD-Player. I am looking at the 3080R

These look 100 times better than what I use to see the boss name on. That and the specs look really good. Good output power, 5V RCA outputs, MP3 on CD-R OR CD-RW

I can't afford to change car stereos, so now I use the cassette adaptor that came with the MP3 player. (Don't laugh--my Oldsmobile has a combo CD player/tape deck)

I'd say a pioneer 4500MP or 5500MP would be your best quality for under $200...on sites like sounddomain.com they are like $169...but sounddomain pricematches to most online stores (all you do is fill out an online form and within 6 hrs for me they send you a coupon for a pricematch)...so if u can find it anywhere cheaper pricematch to their cause ive found sounddomain to be pretty reliable :D

Hey, I was in the same situation. But I burn the audio-cd to play since the combo player/tape deck need to be replaced with a double deck cd/mp3/ cassette player which is very costly than normal single deck cd/mp3 player could be.

I second that suggestion! I have an MP3000. Those two would probably sell better if they jacked the price 50%. Aside from the too-bright-at-night display, there's really nothing wrong with them. One nice thing about the MP3000 is that MP3 track switching is very fast, on par with all of the best (or shall I say, most expensive) MP3 CD players.
