Most ideal SSD for Mac running OS X

Hi,

I'm in the market for an SSD for my MacBook Pro 15" unibody. I understand OS X does not support TRIM, so I guess I need an SSD with good Garbage Collection to help it keep performance at it's best.

Can anyone recommend a good SSD for Mac or have SSD Performance figures specifically for use on a Mac running Mac OS X (10.6)?

From what I've read, the Kingston SSD Now+ uses a very similar chip to that of the SSD's Apple use in their factory Mac's, and has nice aggressive Garbage Collection, how ever the Kingston SSD Now+ does not look to perform very well to most other SSD's Anand has reviewed. hmm..

Any input would be appreciated, cheers.
 
OWC. I have quite a few of them in our unibody 15" Macbook Pros and other various notebooks. The end users love them. Worth every dollar.
 
10.7 will use trim - so that will change the game.

the old macbook air uses no-trim generic ssd and works fine. probably not optimal without trim
 
Any SandForce drive. The OWC drives are just another SF drive, IIRC. You're paying more for the "Mac-ness" that has become attached to them, they're no different.

Please help me decide on a SSD for my old MacBook Pro. Here's the price comparison from where I live:

OCZ Vertex 2 120GB €209
Intel 320 SSD 120GB €199
Kingston SSDNow V+100 96GB €159

The Kingston drive is the smallest with only 96GB, but the price per GB is exactly the same for the Kingston and Intel drive. For some reason the 128GB Kingston drive was the most expensive, so I didn't include it as a drive to consider.

So which of these should I pick and why?

Also the Crucial C300 series?
You can get them cheap because of the 25nm SSD's.

And your not really going to notice the difference in speeds from a C300 to a 25nm G3.
 
Without TRIM support, the OCZ Vertex 3 is looking like a sure fire bet.

I've never seen an SSD perform so well without TRIM as the Vertex 3 does.
 
I don't think there is anything wrong with the Corsair Force and Crucial C300 on macs. It's just that they are more expensive than the others. At least here where I live.
