correction: "paper" millionaires

Millionaires are based on total net worth. They're still millionaires.

That's why he said "paper" millionaires. They are millionaires on paper only. They cannot touch their stock options until a certain time. This is a big difference from having a million in the bank or even having assets which can be sold for 1 million, such as real estate, stock or other valuable items.

Correct. Those employees only have the option to purchase stock at a discount, but they can't sell it until a later date. Once that date comes and the option is still "in the money" (selling at discount), then they can exercise those options and cash in the big bucks. Until then, they're just paper millionaires.
