most games are crashing, ones that do work, screen goes black intermittently

Random reboot's sounds like a PSU issue to me as well. That or a dead short.

i guess ill be happier if it is my gpu than my motherboard

more expensive but way less work

Something like this happened to me. Ended up replacing PSU, MB and GPU. It happens.
