Yeah, because what's a $12-15K difference between friends, right? Irrelevant responses FTW.

C5 Vette or 98-02 LS1 F-body recommendations seconded... hard to have a car more fun than one of those for that price... especially when you remember that fun also means taking the roof or t-tops off in the summer :)

I should really clarify ... POWER != Fun to drive. Anybody recommending a Ford, or solid rear axle car really doesn't know what a fun car is :)

I am thinking about the Miata and RX-8 right now... the S2000 is very highly priced for a good one, so I'll see what I feel like :)

the S2000 will be the most fun you can have for less than $20K, convertible or not (assuming you also need it to be reliable and cheap to run).

You could probably get a 300ZX Twin-Turbo for that, very fast.

Older vette, late-90's Cobra.

18K will also get you a good classic if it's not too rare. You could probably get a late-60's Chevelle SS clone in great shape, big block with a four speed for around that. Or a mustang, something that'd be interesting.

I reiterate -- I don't care about straight line power, I care about handling and agility.

Any "classic" is immediately written off in this regard, because the chassis design of these cars is archaic and horrendous compared to any modern car. And that also lumps in all the solid rear axle cars that people have been suggesting.

Alright what about a Chrysler Crossfire? As quick as a rx8 in a straight line and around corners and not a rotary ;).

GTO. I want one, and since it's from overseas it can handle decently. Although there is room for improvement, and supposedly lots of weight can be lost rather easily.

or an evo. I've heard transmissions are iffy at times, but otherwise its a stout car.

Obviously your already set on a rx8, even though its not terribly powerful. I'd much rather have an s2000 if I wanted something that size.

OMG OP havent you heard, driving around in your car is BAD! You are to get one that gets mega MPG, looks like sh1t, rides like ******, holds no sh1t, and ONLY use it to go from point a to point b and NO in between. So it doesnt matter what you buy as long as it is a Hybrid, or runs on some sort of electricity and dont go anywhere with it. And if you do take it anywhere else for god sakes DONT TELL ANYONE! It about as bad as smoking, your killing the earth, stay home, your using the fuel up and killing small kittens. Leave the fuel for the super rich that can afford it and go to shops in person to buy things. Damn!

God, buy a car thats fun to drive? Someone close to him, hit him upside his head and smack some sense into him.

Why don't you just say what you really mean?

You won't consider any domestic vehicles.

It'll make things easier.

Yea right -- front wheel drive is not allowed in these discussions :D And I'm writing off the Evo too, because it's a Mitsubishi and their cars are horrendous :(

Ah. No FWD and judging by your comments, it sounds like you're not open to US vehicles either...

Rather than "fun to drive" it sounds like you're more concerned with "fun to talk about on internet forums"

Another vote for a new WRX...in fact, I'll be buying one in a few weeks after my vacation.

I'd love a C5 Vette :D I don't think they are in my price range though :( Trust me, I looked.

And yes, largely speaking, American cars handle like boats, because so many of them have solid rear axles making them great power delivery monsters in a straight line, that can't turn worth a damn. No thanks.

Probably the dumbest thing I've read in this thread. Evo's probably the biggest adrenaline shot that you can buy. 4g63's been around forever and is extremely reliable, and aftermarket support is incredible. As a weekend car, it probably can't be beat.

Then again, you did list your sister's gay hairdresser's car - the Miata - as one of your choices. Have fun with that.

The engine is bulletproof in those cars I agree... it's the other things that I worry about. The electronics, the clutch, etc... all covered by :yuck: Mitsubishi.

Besides it's a tad boy-racerish for me. I am leaning towards the E36 M3 or the RX-8.

It's perfect for Tuffguy then. He's needed penis extensions for years.

You think the EVO is too "racerish", but not the RX-8?
