Most expensive piece of hardware ruined

Took out my 8800gtx and was prepping it to go into my sons machine and ripped off one of the memory chips:disgust:
It was water cooled and I was pulling the ram sinks off.

My it rest in peace:(

I did read somewhere about baking the card in an oven and resoldering that way.

Exactly. OR just sell card + chip on Ebay so some fella with basic soldering skills can get awesome card for cheap.

Yeah, you wouldn't think, "Oh, plastic components. They'll be FINE being immersed in hot solder!" :)
I was surprised the first time I saw how industrial PCBs were soldered. I guess because the solder doesn't wet the surface of the plastic, it doesn't adhere, and so isn't able to transfer much heat to it.
