I was just thinking about how friggin expensive these college books run, even after buying a few online that I did get for significantly lower then the bookstore price, still seems like i'm wasting lot's of money when I don't use these things as much as I should if they cost this much, maybe I should just study some more, i dunno....

What's the most expensive book you've purchased?

Mine would have to be a math book last semester which ran me $140 ... :(

I'm a senior in high school, and classes are starting to allow students to buy books so they can highlight them, make footnotes, etc. The AP English book will probably $100 if I decide to buy it. I'm not sure how much the Euro History book will cost, but I pretty much *have* to buy it in order to get a good grade.

econometrics + workbook + manual for a big statistics package was the most expensive IIRC.

They want you to buy books in highschool now??? :disgust: AP or not, that's a load of crap! If one of my HS teachers told me I should buy the book to help ensure I wouldget a good grade I would have laughed in his/her face!!! Most HS courses are of enough of a waste as it is. If they now want you to spend a ton of money of books, that's even worse. Save your money for college (you'll need it)!

Here in Moron-, er, Indiana, families have to pay book fees every year. The state says it's the "parent's unique contribution". That's BS. Unique? It's not like the parents don't raise the kids or pay taxes. Indiana state government is crap, from the top to the bottom.

Yea, that is BS! Sounds like a creative way to get more tax money for the schools without having to raise taxes.

That is such a load of bull crap. Why do you *have* to buy it in order to get a good grade?

Because the class is F'ing hard. Sorry if I wasn't clear, but it's not required but *highly* recommended. The teacher won't give me lower grades because I don't own the book.

Hmm, I thought this sort of thing was normal in a lot of high schools. I guess I was wrong..

$212. Nonlinear Field Theories by C.A. Truesdell. Great book. The only print like 100 a year... so you have to order from the publisher, and they screw you.

The BEST way to buy books is to find old copies (ask your profs, who get free updates on texts).... especially if you're using them for reference and not specifically for class. Just my two cents.

I just picked up a Calc book for $90. It's for a HS AP course too, so powermac, you are not alone. BTW, this is at a private school, so I have no idea if the public schools have the students buy them. For regular, non-AP courses, all the books we get are "on loan" from the school districts.
