Yeah, old school F1 cars look much better.

I'll always have a soft spot for those late 60's cars. Watched the movies, read the history, that whole era was just crazy and interesting.

My other favorite: Mansell domination era!
This was a cool moment in Grand Prix history.

....

Indeed, just re-watched that old moment, it's out of this world. It was fun back then, but it TBH it was sad to watch it now knowing that Senna is dead, I was a Mansell fan all the way but still, it was a tragic death at that.

Do you know what they said to each other? Did Mansell or Senna disclose this?
Mansell: Hey awesome driver! Want a lift?
Senna: Thanks awesome driver! That would be great!

Pulls into podium circle...
Senna: Thanks for lift, awesome driver.
Mansell: No worries, awesome driver.

This is obviously what happened 🙂

The beauty in F1 (and race cars in general) is the function and form intertwine. A lot of the aerodynamic shapes also are great to look at, like the tear drop shape of the side intakes for instance.

I actually like quite a few of the newer cars. Such as these:

I also love the cleaner older styles too (and everything in between, mostly).

I like the super low-slung look of this one:

I think what hurts the newest ones is that they don't have a balance of form. Look at this pic, and how the front is so elongated and there's so much open space around the front wheels.

I also completely despise the newish "dorsal fins", on the cars this year, especially from McLaren, Renault, Ferrari, and Red Bull. I'm sure advertisers love it, and it seems to have other benefits so I expect it to stick around, but it looks awful.

Paint scheme also makes a big difference. I love how they had the Vodafone logo flow with the car shape on the McLaren-Mercedes. I wish Renault would have stuck with the powder blue and yellow instead of the "orange crush" Buccaneers-esque color scheme they've got going now.
