Saverok (or is it Sarevok; I can never remember for some reason) at the end of Baldur's Gate is probably my favorite end boss fight of all time.

Surprised nobody mentioned some of the older boss fights from WoW.

-Original Thaddius
-Ragnaros
-Twin Emperors
-Everyone's favorite Vaelstraz the Corrupt

Painkiller had some awesome and absolutely gigantic bosses.

Serious Sam as well. The UFO where you had to run and launch into the four floating hoops (IIRC) was difficult. And just before that you had to fight a huge boss monster with all kinds of small monsters on your butt.

Painkiller like everybody else said had some enormous bosses...I was also impressed by the size of the CyberDemon boss at the end of Doom 3 but he was too easy.

Also i have to mention the "hunter" from dead space. The thing that follows you, i really didnt like that frickin thing, reminiscent of nemesis i guess.

Castlevania IV on SuperNES

The original theme music kicks in full force about half way into the final dracula boss fight just as you start to "win" the fight. It is really the most excited I have ever gotten during a boss fight. I almost wet my pants! Has to be the most memorable boss for me and the music placement is perfect IMHO.

and....

original castlevania boss turns into an additional boss that is a mofo unless you have holy water III and then hes easy.

By far the best boss fight for me is Ragnaros. I had never even seen him before and the first time he came out of that lava the entire guild shat their pants. Vent was dead silent as he talked, and when he one shotted majordomo (who was like 1/4 his size which made him look extremely large) we were like.. holy shit.

The whole thing.. his voice, the slow circular walk around to his lair, and the music was just so epic. Plus this was before raiding and all of that stuff was big in WoW. I mean mana pots were for the super hardcore and not really used by regular guilds. At that point in the game ragnaros did not compare to anything else.

You eventually ended up hating the intro and all as you wiped so much, but that first time.. man I won't forget it.

Diablo series.

I'm going with this, these are some of the best ones ever.

In particular,

Butcher in Diablo 1

Mephisto, Diablo, Baal in Diablo 2.

The first time you saw these bosses and did the fights were really epic.

Boss fights in classic wow were also pretty spectacular when it was not as big a game then. Ragnaros, Nefarion, C'thun, naxx 40 bosses.

i still find diablo to be the hardest in D2. i am NEVER a high enough level when i fight him.

music wise, MGS4

That last brawl was such a piss off. I spent so long getting past the first two stages, but when both turned "drunk", and the sombre theme got played, wow, was it worth it.

My son's mother in "Mike vs. The Bitch Again III." After battling the four grunts from The Attorney General's Office, the Two Siblings From The Swamp and The Witches She Works With, I was low on ammo and my armor was gone.

By the time I got to the End Fight it was more like a slaughter than a fight. 🙁

I guess you had to be there.

After posting, I realized this wasn't OT. Sorry about that. Since I went thru the trouble of typing it all out, I'm going to leave it though. 😀

Rex in Metal Gear Solid. That one was fun and unexpected. In a "No way I'm gonna have to take THAT shit down!" way.

I've never played any FF games, but I saw my brother fight Sephiroth in FF7 and that was good.

For those old enough, the ending boss in Super Metroid before the countdown. That was epic!

That spider thing in Doom 3 you fought in a small room filled with spider web and dead people. Sick.

end boss in FF7 was pretty good, i liked his Asteroid magic attack, killed me instantly every time but was cool CG footage just to watch it destroy all the planets in the solar system though.

Painkiller, the first boss...freaking HUGE!!!

Emerald Weapon Final Fantasy VII

Yeah i know you dont really HAVE to fight him but you do get a sweet prize

the spell is cool, but the animation takes too damn long. i want to fight !

Hmm, I thought the animation for summon Knights of the Round took longer to complete than Sephiroth's Supernova (it's been a while though, so it's hard to remember).

Btw, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Lavos (Chrono Trigger) yet. You have various opportunities to try to beat it before the main/canonical ending.
