Madden whenever a new one comes out, Warcraft, and Diablo 2. Many a night I played without sleeping.

Back in my BBS days L.O.R.D. was pretty damn addictive.

you too?!? Whoa!

J-E-N-N-I-E: sexy

It is good to see that there are others out there that even remember that game. I remember when I couldn't wait until my charactor reset the next day so that I could play! Damn it was addictive. The board that I first started playing on only had 2 nodes and it was a pain trying to get on! I got so fed up, that I went and got the synchronet software and ran my own BBS. Man those were the days!

EQ1 for sure. Tried EQ2 and it just doesn't have the awe and magic that EQ did in the first year of it's release. Of course now its all ruined and every MMORPG turns into a online bling fasion show and lag fest now. But EQ1 was definately fun in its early days.

ROSE was also interesting and free of most of the problems that plague MMORPGs but I gave it up after the reset...

EQ1 is responsible for my longest up time of 6 days straight without a wink of sleep.

Gotta throw my hat in with all the people here mentioning Diablo and Diablo II. I got the first Diablo as a "reward" for myself after finals week in college one year... 21 hours later, I went to bed. Still an all-time record gaming session for me.

I'm pretty hooked on Guild Wars right now... it definitely bears a lot of similarities to the Diablo series (even some of the same developers, I think).

Diablo, Diablo 2 and Starcraft when I was younger. Now.. CS:S. I actually built this PC so I could get good FPS in CS:S. Play it at least every day for hours. 🙁

after all, who would play a game that is constructed solely of ASCII text unless it was addicting. my MUD revolved entirely around powerful equipment, and many many hours of character development. striving to be the best in a text-video-game...

Pinball Dreams / Pinball Illusions / Pinball Fantasies for the Amiga. The entire range of games from that publisher were fantastic, and you can still play them to this day with UAE and a bit of careful *cough* searching 😉

Oh, and CS:S sucks an enormous amount of my free time.

Isn't that what EVERY multi player RPG is about today?

"WOOT l00k at m3 my fl4ming 733t m4ce has +0.001 more atk than j00s"

I kicked the online RPG habit when I realized the time spent getting virtual loot could be spent busting my ass in real life and getting real loot; the kind of loot that most of these greasy living in their moms basement clan monkies will never see in their lifetimes.

Best of all I can't loose my stuff due to a server glitch.

TEAM FORTRESS CLASSIC mod for Half Life.

back in the days when I was a dumb kid in middle school and played this mod for 24 hours straight.

Didn't read the whole thread...
My favorite game of all time is fallout... best immersion into fictitious reality.

GOTTA GIVE THE LOVE TO CIVILIZATION AS WELL.

Both of these games made me lose track of time....

this is true, and most players of online RPGs eventually realize this. when they put so much time into acquiring virtual-real estate or material items that it becomes ironic.

however, some of these people have no life. they acquire a higher status in the virtual-world then they ever believe they could achieve in real life, so it replaces their desire to succeed in the real world.

and lastly on a funny note, when I used to play MUDs, I never believed any graphical MMORPG game could ever be as good of a game as a MUD, simply because muds are easy for a server to handle, require virtually no resources to play (its text. you can play it on a modem on a pentium 1), are free, and in pure coding, are superior in game design. i never cared about graphics anyways, gameplay is what is most important (and to be relevent, is what makes games addictive). graphics sell, gameplay addicts.

RE4, SC2, CS, ET, KOTOR

most addicting games I've played in the past couple of years

system shock 2 and deus ex are up there
