Mosquito spray recipe

RECIPE #61 Mosquito repel

Lemon scented dish soap and lemon scented ammonia used at equal
parts with water will be a good repellent for mosquitoes.
1 teaspoon each to 1 quart water
1 Tablespoon each to 1 gallon water or
1 cup each in a 20 gallon hose end sprayer.
Spray under leaves and in areas where mosquitoes hang out.

I got this off the web. It sounds simple enough. However, I was told not to mix ammonia with other chemicals. Does this formula sound safe enough for minimal human and pet contact?

As long as there isn't any bleach in that soap then I guess it sounds okay. Bleach + Ammonia = Chlorine gas.

Won't the ammonia evaporate pretty quickly?

Edit: actually it seems like theres much more than Cl2 gas...

oh yeah, my neighbor got the good idea of using undiluted clorox to get rid of the standing water. when there were still mosquitos he wanted to use another chemical with ammonia. I'm not entirely sure he took our advice not to.

I would think chlorine gas would be a pretty effective mosquito killer. Sure, it would probably kill the user too, but at least they'd be free from pesty insects.

I'll have to investigate some more. Those pesky mosquitoes have left some scratch scars on my legs. I also hear that planting Thai lemon grass works along with some citronella products.

LOL, thanks for reminding me of the days of my youth.

I worked in a factory cafeteria in high school, and one of the old idiot bosses mixed up some chlorine gas in the mop bucket.
It knocked him out instantly and someone found him lying on the ground.

We had to evacuate the whole place.

Ah... memories.
