I'm pretty sure the TTC has always been the Sunday right before passover/the Sunday during passover.

They have played it like every night this week. I think it will be ok if they don't have it on one day.

The Ten Commandments has nothing to do with Easter or Jesus. Its use as a traditional event is completely baseless and nonsensical. At the very least, you think they would make it coincide somehow with Passover since Passover actually IS connected to Moses leading the Jews out of Egypt. Easter Sunday does not always fall within Passover as it does this year (for instance in 2005, Easter will be 3/27 but Passover is 4/23-5/1).

Nope always on Easter Sunday.... no question.

And I understand the point that everyone else is making saying it doesnt have anything directly to do with Easter, and that it should be shown during/on Passover, and while I do somewhat agree, thats not the point. 21+yrs ago some Exec decided to run it every year on Easter and a tradition was born.

Dying easter eggs has nothing to do with Easter does it? Yet we do that...

Please keep in mind I was NOT lookign to kindle an argument here... this was just me venting that one of my traditions was taken away in lieu (sp?) of a freaking Sonny and Cher wanna-be variety show!

But dying eggs you can do on your own. You don't need the approval of a ratings-grubbing television network to dye eggs. Showing of the Ten Commandments as an Easter tradition was rooted solely in getting viewers on what is probably one of the slower TV nights of the year. The loss of such a hollow tradition is hardly lamentable. If you really want to see it, go grab the DVD and start your own tradition. All the good traditions are the ones people create for their own families anyway.

Well I wouldnt neccessarily call it "such a hollow tradition"... It was simply something that myself and my family had come to expect and was part of the day...actually, the closing of the day. It would be on in the background as we cleaned up after dinner, or as kids were sucking down 2 more lbs of chocolate easter bunny and marshmellow peeps.

We have PLENTY of other traditions (ironically of which none will be celebrated this year due to illnesses and other issues... maybe thats part of my grudge about TTC not being on.. it was my last hope for some semblence of order on Easter).

Like I said, just grab the DVD for $15. It's only a hollow tradition because it is borne of grubbing for ratings. If you still want to carry on the tradition, you can do it without ABC backing you up. And commercial-free, widescreen and in 5.1 audio, to boot. Then you can have it shown every Easter, regardless of which way the ratings winds seem to be blowing that year.
