We all seem to have difficulty noticing the faults and divisiveness of those with whom we agree while being more than willing to accept from them absolute nonsense as fact. Obama's divisiveness planted the seeds that gave us Trump. I hate to imagine what comes from the seeds being planted by Trump.

Actually, the President that prevented the division of the nation is not by any sane measure a divisive President. He took the ultimate step to prevent division. He set the stage for the US to emerge as the greatest nation the world had ever seen.

I distinctly remember it leaking out that Moscow Mitch had a meeting with other Republicans immediately after Obama won his first term, with their stated goal to make Obama a one term President. Remember that? I sure as Hell do. The seeds of division were sown that day and it was Republicans who cast them into the wind. Democrats hated the fact that Obama never seemed to learn that every single time he extended an olive branch to Republicans, they would saw it off. He tried again and again, only t end up with a pile of twigs and leaves. So fuck you and fuck your bullshit about Obama sowing division, Republicans started that fire. The only divisiveness there is here is that he is black and the Republican party racists melted down when he won in 2008. In 2012 conservatives doubled down on division when he won a second term.

Nixon started the fire of division, Reagan poured gas on it and Trump has fanned the flames of division to blast furnace level. Again, Fuck You.

I remember asking conservatives during the Obama administration what it was they thought made him divisive. The only consistent answer I ever received to that was that Obama once said that Trevon Martin could have been his son.
And it took me a long time to understand why they took that statement as divisive. Then it occurred to me. Identity politics. White conservatives believed it was acceptable for Zimmerman to stalk Martin to his own home and kill him because they identified with Zimmerman and not with Martin, because Zimmerman was perceived as white and Martin as black.
So when Obama said Martin could have been his son, he reinforced the white conservative belief that the black President was not one of them. Thus, divisive.
Ahh, if only he'd just called them losers and a mob and traitors and led chants to lock them up and send them back.

I also believe the country was at a point where this division was necessary to bring about the changes and unity that followed, though it's my opinion that his assassination did more to unify the country than most of the things he said or did. Unfortunately, the divisions also deprived the country of the greatness that could have been if Lincoln had actually had the support of the country.

That's stupid way to look at is because you're ignoring that was in a 4 way race where he had over 10% more votes than the 2nd closest (and absolutely steamrolled all 3 in the electoral college). Many people thought black people weren't human beings or equal to white people and a whole bunch of other stupid things, so "some people thought" means nothing. The funny part is that sounds a hell of a lot like the South tried to rig the election against him. That wasn't his fault. The South literally started the Civil War and were the ones instigating the violence the whole way up until the North had no choice but to go to war. Laying the blame for that on Lincoln is absurd.

Yeah, that's because War Democrats joined with Republicans and formed the National Union Party as a symbol of unity. There was zero chance Lincoln wasn't going to be the Republican candidate (some Republicans initially threw a fit and nominated Fremont, but he later withdrew and then supported Lincoln). WTF if you're gonna spout history know your fucking shit and stop trying to deliberately mislead people. Its not because OMG even the Republicans didn't like Lincoln, it was an attempt at unifying more voters (many of which wouldn't vote Republican out of principle; sounds like something that the Democrats should try this next election frankly).
