Mortal Kombat vs. Soul Calibur

my friend claims the new mortal kombat owns the new soul calibur. I don't know what he's thinking, mortal kombat is a horrible game nowadays. The latest game has horrible graphics compared to soul calibur. discuss! 🙂
 
I'd give Soul Calibur the nod, and not for graphics. The fighting engine is just much better in SC. Mortal Kombat is arguably more fun for most people, but I don't think there's any doubt that Soul Calibur has the better fighting mechanics.

Personally, for me, the top fighting game goes to Dead or Alive. Mostly because its got perhaps the best graphics of any fighting game, solid mechanics, is easy to pick up but deep enough for more hardcore players, and has a 4 player tag mode that works quite well.

The new ones are good. The few that came after 3 sucked balls, way too many things were trying to be done in just not enough time or just not being thought out.

I like MK because its MK, I have never really played SC2, so I cant really say I like/dislike it.
 
Soul Calibur for DC and MK the original arcade game are far and away the best of the series....anything new is just awful...its like creating a sequel to Alien...the first was awesome but each consecutive gets worse and worse and worse...
 
I believe Mortal Kombat had more pronounced tiers, so that possibly would make tournament players dislike it more than Soul Calibur (Edge, 1 and 2), but Soul Calibur 3 isn't a tournament game either...

I guess it depends on your style. I think people say Mortal Kombat would be on the opposite end of the spectrum from a game like Tekken 5, with Soul Calibur somewhere in the middle... depending on your pace, and the use of powerful and sometimes unbalanced attacks.

I thought they were all fun, but I like Soul Calibur better today.
 
You're comparing the NEW MK to SC? not much of a battle there...MK's been a mediocre franchise for quite some time now, while SC has improved (for the most part) title to title.
 
I personally stand neutral on this discussion.

I have MK😀 and yes, I can admit it's not nearly as deep as soul calibur at all. It also has very cheap tactics if you know how to play right. Soul Calibur 3 on the other hand is a great looking game.

However I just do not have fun with Soul Calibur games. The game is a button mashers dream come true. You can push the same button combiations 3 times in a row, and it'll do 3 different moves each time. The game just is not that fun to me because anyone can just win and kick anyone's butt. The truly good people don't shine in this game IMO. You could close your eyes and just mash buttons and have a great chance of winning in SC3.

Still to this date, I just do not like fighters as much as I used to years ago. My most played fighter is SF2 on SF:AC on xbox live. I play that prety much once a week. Much more fun than playing these newer fighters IMO.

Until KI3 makes it on xbox360, I probably won't touch another fighter. SC has been dead since SC2 first came out in arcades IMO. Tekken hasn't been fun since tekken 3 IMO. VF hasn't been fun since VF2 IMO. DOA has always sucked. And MK hasn't been truly great since MK2.

Fighters just seem to be getting worse and worse, which is why I'm scared KI3 is going to ruin the franchise (because KI1 was so much better than KI2 IMO).

don't get your hopes up for sc3, the game does look better and creating your own character is pretty cool but they rebalanced the characters 🙁 talim is ridicously slow.
 
i used to bike to the liquor store by my house almost every day to play the original mk when it first came out 🙂 it's awesome
