Morrowind

Just wondering if I should get Morrowind for the PC or XBOX. Also, what edition of the game is the best?

PC ===

Athlon 64 3000=
9700 PRO
512 MB RAM PC3200

PC GOTY edition. On the PC you will have access to all the mods and the TES construction set. You will not have access to the third party graphics upgrade packs and the mods on the xbox version.

Yes, get the PC version. It completely blows away the Xbox version, plus is much easier to control on the PC than the Xbox. The mods and patches make it even better. Get the GOTY edition for the add ons too. A great PC game!

Yep, Morrowind is in my top 5 best games of all time. It is probably my favorite RPG.

Ya, PC all the way

and BTW, do the graphics upgrade DL's really work good?

the ones i used looked MUCH better, i cant remember their names tho. I lost them during the last format.

anybody know where/what for those graphics upgades? i just go the goty edition and i get a bit of stutterig once in a while, 6800gt. i haven't installed the expansions, tribunal etc but got the patch. 1b i think it was. does it make sense to install the expansions now, are they just different maps or should i play thru the original first?

bump for a great question. BTW, I got the game at Target for $19.99. Hopefully a decent price.

INSTALL THE EXPANSIONS RIGHT AWAY!!!
They meld in with the original world.
Mournhold is only found by tunnels or transporters. It doesnt mess with anything in the original world.
The werewolf island is waaay off to the northwest of Vvardenfell. Also wont mess with anything.

And they both add lots of goodies. Not to mention the latest version of the program is a little more stable.

I dont know about graphics upgrades, but there is a guy who made a help file for tweaking various settings in ES3. It came make the game run much smoother.
Google for Morrowind Tweak Guide.

And finally, the amount of 3rd party add-ons is ridiculous. I especially like the Private Mobile Base. There is no good reason to get the Xbox version.

I don't remember precisely where, but the two mods to get at the very least are called:
Better heads and bodies
Readable signs

There is also an FPS optimizer that dynamically adjusts the view distance, but don't recall its name.

If you search Google for morrowind and "better heads" I'm pretty sure you'll find a repository of morrowind mods. Also Morrowind and "readable signs" should yield good results.

Better bodies is a must get. It adds bodies that are a TON better than the goofy originals. The default are nudes, but there are underwear versions for those offended by naked people.

someone had linked me to a site, tweaks r us or tweaktown, or something that has some FPS improvements, allegedly. i didn't notice much difference.

i will say this is a sweeeet game and i'm definitely going to check the bodies/heads mods. very cool game.

You kidding? The only even semi-plausable reason to have a console is for games which console makers pay developers not to release on PC. If a console is the only possible way to play a specific game, while I personally wouldn't bend over in front of Sony or Microsoft and buy their console because they tell me to, I can at least understa... well, I can at least not lau... I can at least not laugh too hard at those who do.

Console gaming is great when you just want to sit back on the couch, relax and play the game on a big screen tv. They're also much better for sports games. Given the choice, and provided console version isn't much worse I'll always pick console game over PC. I could care less about "slightly better graphics", especially since I have a 2-3 year old video card.

That's why the good people at newegg sell wireless gamepads and video cards ship with s-video out cables 🙂

My big screen TV and my PC are in different rooms. And please don't suggest running a cable all the way downstars 🙂

Try this site, it has tons of downloads and links to fan sites. BTW PC rocks for Morrowind  http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/

I also am interested in this game. Just got an Xbox, although I have had a computer for much longer. Not sure if my graphics system is up to it.

I am running dual 1.6 Xeons(both at 3.0Ghz), 1GB PC 3200 DDR, and a PNY 6600GT, think that will be good enough or should I get it for the Xbox?

It looks like I am cleary above the minimum requirements, but I saw someone say it was stuttering on his 6800GT

I am also considering Jad Empire as well. I really like unarmed combat. I played a bare fisted monk in neverwinter nights, well whatever expansion added the monk class anyway.
