morrowind & sneaking

I've been sneaking around, sneaking up on creatures, NPCs, and so on, but I'm not making any progress to leveling up my sneak skill. Do you need to do something special?
edit: hmm, got it. still a PITA to practice 🙁

When you're successfully sneaking, you'll see a little icon appear (in the lower left, I believe). When I practiced sneaking, I would just go into a tavern or something and crouch in the corner. The little icon would flicker on and off and I would slowly gain experience. Usually, I would just put a book down on the CTRL key and leave for a while.

if you are gonna do that, might as well just use the cheat code to increase sneaking level

the cheat that made morrowind enjoyable was the COC ... that way you didnt spend 60% of your time having to walk back and forth and back and forth across the island..

*ZAP* teleportation!
you still need to know WHERE you want to go, but now don't have to waste hours holding down W
