Yeah, I know it has been around for some time, but when I first attempted to play 6 years ago I didn't "get" Morrowind. My RPG experience was greatly shaped by first tabletop pencil and paper D&D and then PC games such as Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.

Basically I gave up the game when I almost finished the Fighter's Guild Quests (I started out with the Fighter's Guild and stayed with it, so you know how little I actually experienced) . Of course in my game play I went here, there, and everywhere on my journey with really no rhyme or reason. I didn't even get a tenth into the main story line.

Now I want to reinstall both the main game along with both expansions and try again (and my rig is so much more up to the task). I have heard there are great community texture packs and mods that make the game play more enjoyable. There are tons to choose from so it is quite daunting to pick which are the ones to install and what one's to avoid. One thing I didn't like about the original look was the depressing, drab color scheme. So I'd appreciate hearing from you recommendations for...

1. Texture packs for improved graphics, terrain, etc.

2. Merchants that actually have enough gold to buy high end items and replenish their gold stocks in a reasonable time frame.

3. Anything else you can think of.

* If it helps I'll be playing a combination of fighter/mage with magic as supporting, etc.

Thanks!

this is one I used. I originally played it on a gf3ti200...then put it away b/c of the performance hit with forced 32 bit textures. I reopened it when I put together my 7900GT system 2 years ago. What a difference!

essential. It keeps the cliff racers from attacking you , unless you attack them first. If not you will fight cliff racers for 3 hrs while walking through areas.

and you can look around there anything with a 10.0 rating is good. There are a lot of specific mods, models, textures, like specific armor, weapons, etc. As well as user made areas. Just d/l something that sounds interesting and give it a shot! But definitely get those two mods. Those are the only ones I remember distinctly.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. If I read the info in the link correctly the landscape visuals, etc. will greatly improve. Correct?

And speaking of cliff racers...ugh! The thing thet stands out for me from my first time playing is how I would be walking along and suddenly - BAM! - I am attacked from behind/above. It got to the point where I would use my bow to knock them down before they got me. Improved my bow skill though! ;)

Try the Better Looking Morrowind Mods, they definitely perk things up. In fact, if I recall correctly, they make things looks almost as good as Oblivion.

You're still going to have the desolate areas, that's just the way the world is.

You might want to dig around for the "Better Bodies" and "Better Heads" Mods (two of them) as well. They spruce up the NPC's quite a bit.

I also see that I have the "Clean Just Face It" Mod, another beautifier for NPC's I believe.

Can't remember exactly where I got the later Mods.
