So, with another hurricane coming and gas prices already fubared... people are buying gas left and right even here in San Antonio. It's crazy. I went into work today and stopped at my local corner store gas station to grab some coffee like I always do. I happened to drive today and not ride my bike since I was a wee bit tired from staying out the night before. Anyhow, I go in, grab my coffee and noticed the place and pumps were all packed!!! The lady in front of me gets to the register and asks for $20 regular on pump 8. The attendant behind the counter says, "Sorry maam, we are out of regular we only got supreme left." The lady said, "Well nevermind then." "Oh no, since we only have supreme left it is now the same price as regular."

At this point I do a double take... "WHAT?!?!?!" I can hardly beleive my ears. Supreme the same as regular. I hadn't planned on filling up today but I was going to have to soon since I was down to a quarter of a tank. The thing is, since I drive an RX8, my car only takes supreme gas. This made me fill up and only pay $25 at the pump which is something I haven't done in awhile. Woohoo!!!! Thank you all you morons buying out all the other gas. FTW! I love paying $2.49 for supreme. I didn't mind being in late to work over that at all.

Sweet deal. Of course, you'll be singing a different song when the price is double that next week. Nothing like emotion driving the market.

Only reason gas prices will rise is stuff just like this...I love humans' ability to panic

That being said, Rita sucks

I live in San Antonio, too, and will return there in about a month. It's been great driving around here in Kuwait during my deployment...until about 2 months ago the Kuwaitis were providing all the "MOGAS" (gasoline) and "JP8" (diesel) for us. Uncle Sam pays them for it now, but I still just have to drive my vehicle up to the pump and tell them to "fill 'er up".

My wife has told me to count my blessings while I have them...I'm sure I won't be coming back to prices as low as $2.49.

:(

And most of the reason everyone fears shortages at the pumps is because people buy it all in the fear of a shortage.
It's a self fulfilling prophecy, stupid and more stupid.

I didn't buy gas before when it was $2.60 a gallon around here, and after Katrina it shot up to $3.40. I tried to make due with only filling up a gallon or two at a time, and trying to wait out the price jump.

Now that it's back at $2.83, I'm not taking another risk and having to be inconvenienced by this for a few more weeks. I'm just going to buy it where it's low enough, and not worry about it for at least 2 weeks, which should give it some time to drop again.

People are going to go out and jack the prices anyway, so I don't care if I'm just adding to it, I'm not going to get fvcked again.

My car was on E yesterday. Filled up for $2.59. Good timing too with Rita set to hit tomorrow night. I'm sure gas prices are about to jump through the roof.

Yeah, it sucks that price gouging seems to be happening already. I live a couple hours north of Dallas, and just got a call from a buddy. He said that gas stations are already jacking up the price of gasoline (regular unleaded was ~$2.49 a gallon here this past week), in anticipation of Rita.

I told him to call the city, and report them for price gouging. Geez, the stupid storm is still a day or 2 away from hitting, and they're already jacking up prices? They need to string these bastards up by the neck!! :|

WTF is with this anyway. Hurricanes have been a fact of life for a very long time. Don't you think it's a bit dirty that the refineries jack the gas prices up? Katrina may have started it, but you know what is going to happen from now on. Every fricken hurricane that enters the gulf or even comes within a couple hundred miles of the US coastline is going to send gas prices sky high. This is nothing more than typical greed of the oil companies. Govt intervention is called for, but I already know that's a lost f*ck*ng cause with current tirdbucket in DC!

I was at the Chevron on the corner of Callaghan and 410 this morning buying my daily cup of joe. They said, they were out of gas except Supreme and were charging regular price for it like I said in my OP. I was DAMN happy over that.

I paid $2.59 a gallon for regular yesterday in Cary, NC:

Raleigh Gas Prices.com FTW :p

As for the OP, seeing as how poor gas mileage the RX8 gets in the first place, I'm sure the attendent will be seeing you back soon :p
