If I was to buy a new Processor, which would be more ideal for an office PC, speed wise? Im looking at the fastest Duron possible, a 1300 MHz, vs the Thunderbird 1333 MHz. The PC will be used for Office, Internet, CD Burning and a few basic games (like Scrabble and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire). Which is the better processor???

For all of the applications listed, either one will easily do.

I think the Duron would be slightly cooler, so I would give it the thumbs up.

For one thing. The TBird is using the 266fsb. The Duron is on the 200mhz FSB. That will definitely give the TBird the win. Even if they ran on the same bus. The TBird would be faster. The Duron would run alittle cooler though.

I would take the bird due to a faster FSB and the extra L2 cache.

While it's true that the Tbird has a higher FSB and a larger L2 cache, I just really don't think that he will feel a difference in how the machine handles for office applications and scrabble.
Tbirds are rather hot things...

For office applications, I can't even really fell the difference between a Pentium III 667 and an Athlon XP 1600+... And I work between two of those quite often.

Birds running "hot" is an overhyped issue. Use a retail or equivalent cooler and you will be fine. In regards to the original question, both cpu's are priced within 5.00 of each other, so flip a coin. If I was making the decision, it would be the Athlon as stated previously. Don't just buy things to suit you now when obviously the cost is not a concern, and you also want to have something to scale with your usage curve.

Yes, the Tbird overheating issue is very overexaggerated. My overclocked TBird under stock voltages is running at 44-46C under full load (SETI@Home) according to MBM5 (Depends on room temp), on a horrible HSF (All aluminum Volcano5).

I'd go with the Tbird, as it has a faster FSB, and has that extra L2 Cache, even though it may appear not be of use for your applications, its a little extra speed, for the same cost.

go with an athlon xp processor... the xp1600+ (1.4GHz) is only $2 more than the athlon 1.33 and a good deal faster... forget the duron

also by the way don't make so many posts on this board... make one that asks all your questions we'll get to them...
(check your other posts for info that i left in them as well...)
