I wish I'd saved the link. About a week and a half ago I said, "And Turkey ain't coming." With all due respect to my more conservative colleagues, the fact that Turkey will not send troops is an eloquent statement about just how far out on the limb we are. As I've said before, this administration gets a D+ in "Plays well with others."

EDITED: Anandtech would be just about perfect if the got a spell checker . . . and got rid of . . .

The history of tensions between Turkey and the Kurds is CLEARLY known.. its not a bad idea to keep a neighbor like Turkey out.. It may cause more problems having them there than it solves.

IESpell ;)

And yes it's probably a wise move for the Turks to not involve themselves if it's going to cause trouble.

There was never ANY intention of sending Turkish troops into Kurdish areas . . . beyond the Turkish troops already occupying the region. These troops were likely going into the Sunni Triangle, regions south of Baghdad, and to help secure the border. Despite the presence of thousands of Turkish troops in northern Iraq there appears to be little discord.

Having said all of that, it is reasonable to exclude neighboring countries from sending troops to secure Iraq . . . then again if you don't have these countries . . . who else would be interested?

As someone who rarely agrees with Caddy and NEVER agrees with Crimson, I can only speculate that Hell just froze over.

Keep Turkey out of Iraq. We need help, but Turkey's presence would only inflame the situation. There is too much bad blood between Turkey and the Kurds.
