For those curious about Sol Survivor:

Steam tells me it's 430mb and after playing it, I feel that it is very good, one of the best in fact, but just not as good as Defense Grid.

Sol Survivor is very fun and challenging, especially with the 'Generals' aspect (i think they're called Generals anyway). Certainly a slightly different take on the TD genre.

Simply put if you enjoy TD games, Sol Survivor is a must along with DG and PvZ.

I bought SS yesterday and played a little last night. I loved DG, but SS doesn't seem as fun. Maybe it just starts out too slow.. I'll give it some more time.

HA! this is where you need a 6yr old daughter who LOOOOOOOOOOVES to water the planets and wake up the snail 🙂

ROFL ... you looking in my windows ?? I >DO< have a 6 y.o. daughter and she LOVES the game !! I explain to her what I'm doing, and I even let her sit and watch the coin farming level for me while I make a sandwich, replacing a garlic every now and then.

Even so, I dunno how ANYONE could get to 1000', but I'm sure there's a few PvZ nuts out there.

If you have to make your own sammich, you're doing something wrong.

As I said, it is not as fun to play as DG. It is graphically inferior and I don't feel as immersed as I did with DG...

But it is much more diverse with it's defenses and superweapons, yet balanced out by the restrictions set by the Generals... a more tactical game of TD I would say.

LOL
When I was into PvZ I just would fire it up and let her do that as long as she wanted. I wasn't "playing" that was HER part of the game. Then she'd let me know how much she earned etc, we'd buy a new weapon or whatever and they play some levels together. It was actually a nice little "bonding" thing as dorky as that sounds.

The one I like the most is Cursed Treasure.

(Requires a bit of thought rather than just hording a mass of defense at the enterance of the map)...

Is there any out there which are similar or compare to it?

Well, so much for my afternoon.

I finally finished DG: The Awakening, I spent 3 days trying to perfect my defense on the final map. Hopefully Borderlands will keep me busy for another week where I can then get the map packs[or wait for another .49 deal].

From what I hear, maybe I should've bought and played Sol Survivor first since DG has spoiled me. 😛

Just got Sol Survivor off Impulse for $2.50. Between reading it's not as good as DG (which I love) and that it's a must-have for TD-game lovers, I figured the price is well worth a try. 🙂

p.s. Got Orcs Must Die recently but am disappointed it is not quite a TD game in the traditional sense.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is a td game that was the steam daily deal the other week. 80 metascore.

I think sol survivor has online co-op which is pretty cool. Sanctum is a 1st person td game and it's pretty fun.

Yeah, OMD is kinda a hybrid TD game, but still fun. Out of all the games I got during the Autumn sale, I think it's my favorite.

For the OP, check into Dungeon Defenders. It's a great hybrid multiplayer and has a tower only feature.

According to STeam I have 236 hours played in Defense Grid🙁 It was my first tower defense game and might be my last because I hate everything I tried since including Orcs Must Die.

Sanctum is a pretty fun tower defense game because its tower defense + FPS 😀. Mobs all have a weakspot to burst more damage if you aim well. You can upgrade towers or weapons and win. I play with my friends 4 person co-op its pretty fun.

About a year ago I heard about this type of game, and got Toy Soldiers on Xbox Live. By far this is the best strategy/defense game I've seen; in content, in style, and gameplay.

Sadly, this is not available on Steam, nor is the sequel which I'm dieing to play.

On the PC, Dungeon Defenders is really good, and I've also heard good things about Orcs Must Die. What is this Defense Grid?... gonna check it out.

I'm dieing to see that game on the PC, was suppose to be released for it this past summer, but I haven't heard anything.

There's a new tower defence game coming out, Gratuitous Tank Battles that has customizable units and a map editor.

There are loads.

Sanctum is a first person shooter 4 player coop tower defence
Dungeon defenders is a 1st/3rd person 4 player coop
Revenge of the titans is a singleplayer tower defence game

All on steam

This pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about TD games. I wish there was more of DG and the like. 🙁

For Warcraft 3 I would recommend YouTD... It's the largest and most in-depth one out yet.

I would also like to put in a plug for Dungeon Defenders. This isnt your typical Tower D as it combines RPG and first person elements with a Diablo 2 style item system... Basically its crack for me as my favorite games were the W3 tower defenses and Diablo 2... I seriously can't stop playing and I've bought four copies for friends... ugh...

I'm enjoying Dungeon Defenders, but it is a lot more grindy than your average TD game. However, the maps are a gamble, some are actually as strategic as maps for Defense Grid/etc.
