I am disgusted that no-one has mentioned Sol Survivor.

Whilst it is not as graphically polished, immersive or giving that story-driven feel of Defense Grid, it is an exceptionally good Tower Defense game with a very wide selection of turrets, upgrades and superweapons... with a twist :)

i bought it,but due to comcast bandwidth constraints and recent sales steam has offered, i am coming up on my cap...next month i can give it a whirl :)

Same here. It was the first tower defense game I got into, and it was insanely fun. It's personality really sold it. I may have to pick up defense grid from what people are saying. And only $5 on steam!

I played DG for a while, but it just didn't do it for me. I got kinda boring.
Gem Craft though is/was AWESOME. That's a free one and goes on and on and on and... Google it up.

I'd recommend Bloons Tower Defense 4. It's a flash TD game, very entertaining. Ridiculously addictive though, don't blame me when you can't stop.

Oh god I got so hooked on that game last year.. I had the high score for a while..

I got DG for $5 during the steam deal last Fri. Man that game rocks.
Same here, Defense Grid rocks. I always thought before, why pay for a TD game when there are so many free ones, but it really was worth it. I also paid $4 for the extra map packs.

also, the StarCraft 2 TD (flash game) is nice and challenging.

Oh, I forgot about that. I got obsessed with it for a bit, man is it hard. almost no room for error on some levels.

They really should release another map.

You can't believe more devs aren't flooding the market? All I fucking see anymore are tower defense games. It started as a bonus mode in Warcraft 3 and has blown out of control. Most of the flash games that are popular out there are tower defense games, and those are free... many of them are quite good. I find it hard to believe you can only find 2 TD games.

Was thinking the same. Every time I just want to kill a few minutes and go to a Flash gaming site, and look for the highly rated ones, it's "Oh, another TD game.. another TD game... a TD game with a slight twist..."
I think GemCraft is my favorite of the Flash ones, though.

I didn't want to pay for map packs until I tried and liked it. How many maps is in the map pack?

Starcraft started it all, so I'd pick that up. Though the genre was mastered in Warcraft III where it is still really popular, with a ton of variation.

Heh I felt the same way, but as soon as I got through all the maps in the game I purchased the new ones :)

There are 4 map packs. Each map pack has 2 maps. 99 cents each, total $3.96 for 8 maps. They are quite challenging too, so I think it's worth it.
I started on one of the maps in the 3rd pack last night, it is very difficult!

Sol Survivor and Defense Grid are $5 each on Steam right now. I'm thinking about picking them up.

Definitely get DG. I just bought SS but I won't get to play it until tonight, assuming it's not a big download and the servers aren't overloaded.

OK, I'll get DG, and I might download the SS demo tonight to see if I like it. Are the DG maps always $1 each? Is there any problem with playing through all the maps that come with DG and then buying the map packs?

Well so far there are just the 4 map packs, and as far as I can tell they've always been 99 cents each. Each pack has 2 maps. You can purchase them at any time, 1 by 1 or get all 4 at once if you want.

Bought DG last night. I've managed to get away from PvZ for a few months, but now the TD game genre draws me back yet again.

Coin farming to get that 1000' tree of knowledge felt like too much of a WoW grind. :(
