Never played a tower defense game before, but I recently grabbed Defense Grid ($10 @ D2D) and couldn't stop playing it. Super simple, super addictive. Just finished Plants vs Zombies, also gaming crack (Popcap games of course). I can't believe how game devs aren't flooding the market with this stuff, it can't take years or millions of bucks to make one of these games. My next fix will be when they release DG: Gold with the 8 DLC maps they just released this month. Hopefully a map editor (and weapons editor?) too and a community based ranking system so we can grab new ones to keep the juices flowing.

Any other TD games out there for PC worth grabbing? Quick searches didn't really turn up anything recent.

You can't believe more devs aren't flooding the market? All I fucking see anymore are tower defense games. It started as a bonus mode in Warcraft 3 and has blown out of control. Most of the flash games that are popular out there are tower defense games, and those are free... many of them are quite good. I find it hard to believe you can only find 2 TD games.

Most TD games don't compare to the quality of something like Defense Grid. So jonks does have a valid point.

I had dismissed the flash based games without trying them, figured they were crappy and I couldn't find a review site that ranked them. (is there one?) I was wondering if there were more "full" games like DG with 3D graphics, etc.

Thanks Monkeh for the recommendation. I'll take other peoples' favorites too. Whacha got?

I'm pissed the South Park one is x360 only :( boo!

I would love to see more games as high-quality as Defense Grid, and maybe with a little coop multiplayer thrown in -- but I guess I still have WC3 and perhaps SC2 for that...

The only thing I can add is a little experimental game called Iron Grip: Warlord (it's rather new but uses the Quake 3 engine). It's... I guess what you could call a FPS/Tower Defense hybrid. Enemies flood the town and you have to defend your stronghold building by either buying new weapons and upgrading your skills, or spending your "power" that you earn on turrets to build around the city.

You press a key to go from first-person to a top-down view where you can build. One problem with the game is that there just isn't enough of the towers to choose from. You get a machine gun turret, an anti-tank -- both of which can be upgraded. Other than that, there are a few other things you can build, but none are as important as effective as those.

It's has a bleak storyline to it, where you are pretty much killing the enemy long enough until their morale is low. If the enemy kills a NPC civilian you actually gain more power to build with. When you win the enemy bombs the city killing about everything, but you win because you have gained the people's trust. Happy times, huh?

I believe there's a demo available for one of the maps.

I wonder if gamers realize how big the puzzle or popcap games market is in sales. They tend to outsell all of the big name titles . They are cheap to purchase, run on almost all hardware and most of all are fun .
I really enjoyed Plants vs Zombies . There wasn't anything especially new about the game play, but what it did have is character. It was fun seeing what new type of zombie would appear next. A lot of the popcap games are like this, simple concepts but with themes changed to make it fun.

For tower defense pick up stronghold or crusader. While not like the typical build bigger for next wave tower defense game it does have strong base building where you prepare for each new wave of the enemy vs the typical RTS of build just to destroy the enemy.

Ah, well obviously none will match up to DG quality but I think many of them are pretty good for flash games.

I loved TD for WC3 several years ago. And I've played many TD games on my iPhone. But I haven't tried out any of the other TD games on PC, besides the Marvel.com flash game, lol.

I'd kill for a PvZ 2 or similar.

Same here. It was the first tower defense game I got into, and it was insanely fun. It's personality really sold it. I may have to pick up defense grid from what people are saying. And only $5 on steam!

I am disgusted that no-one has mentioned Sol Survivor.

Whilst it is not as graphically polished, immersive or giving that story-driven feel of Defense Grid, it is an exceptionally good Tower Defense game with a very wide selection of turrets, upgrades and superweapons... with a twist :)

Does Sol have VS multiplayer? I see there is a 4-pack on Steam for $15. Could be fun.

I really need to pick up Defense Grid. I've played a ton of tower defense on WC3 TFT, and there's still a pretty decent online community on Battle Net. You can get the games for next to nothing now too.

Desktop Tower Defense is my personal favorite, some of the higher level challenges are downright ferocious.

From Steam:

Jump in to intense turret defense action with Sol Survivor! Build turrets to defend your colony and the innocent colonists within. Smash enemies with volleys of actively-controlled orbital support. Play with friends in co-operative and competitive multiplayer matches or test your mettle against our new Survival mode

So it seems to have a co-op mode and a Vs. mode. Not sure how the Vs. modes are played... I can't help you there.
