The best way to download stuff is use a freely available download manager, not only will it let you download as many things as you want but most also include features such as auto-resume, auto reconnecting, features which are not natively available in IE.

The one I prefer most is Reget.

To create a link:

When you are in the editing screen (making a/replying to a post) scroll down just a little and click on the "symbols" link. It will show you.
