More than 100 Republicans threaten to form 3rd party over Trump

I pretty much agree with you, except I doubt the base is going to change for 2024, especially since they have Trump and the other batshit crazy Republicans, as well as the right wing media and evangelical leaders reinforcing their beliefs.
2024 is different. Midterms are usually bad for an incumbent. Trump won't be actually on the ticket then.

Trump being on the ticket could drive anti Trump voters out in more numbers than in 2020. Only if the GQP is satisfied they can suppress democracy enough can Trump work in 2024.

Seems to me these, these Dirty 100 are pissing into the wind, insomuch as there will be 70+ million Repubs that will vote kneejerk fashion for the party no matter who is up to bat on their side. I mean, after four disastrous years of Trump, those compulsives of theirs still went with that pathological liar/tax cheat/miscreant/unindicted co-conspirator anyway. Being a seditionist only adds some spitshine to Donald's resume as far as they're concerned

It's really up to the Democrat's ability to rally up the troops and get them motivated enough (ala 2020) to overcome those hyper-propagandized zombies the Repub party's cadre brain-fucked into compliance.

It’s hard to motivate democrats when the people doing the obstruction are democrats (manchin for example).

I swear democrats are afraid of their own shadow.

I'm glad to see some republicans going back to a time before the whole party lost their minds and started following batshit, ideological nonsense! Really looking forward to seeing more Eisenhower Republicans again!

They will be maligned with limited support both in voters and financial backers. Their rallying cry will be but a whimper and soon a distant memory.

Yes, nice to see them get back to being the garbage they were before they decided to be Trump branded garbage. Very exciting.

Lol, indeed. That was kinda my snarky point. These ghouls (a Cheney FFS!), and the media pretend the GOP was fine and wholesome right up until about oh, 2015 or so? But then buhu mean trump just came out of nowhere and twisted and corrupted that wonderful conservative message into something actually nasty.. 🙄:tearsofjoy:

But to anyone with half a brain the GOP has of course been hateful psychopaths since at least Goldwater. Hence my longing for Eisenhower  I don't really know if he would have been great, but at least couldn't be worse than the last 4 republican presidents..

Unless a significant number of sitting Republican members of Congress repudiate the party, and sit as independents, and actually vote against at least the worst parts of the Trump agenda. This “split” actually costs the GOP voters nothing. Why bother re-thinking your support of Trump if the Republicans in Congress all go along with his nonsense anyways?

What the US really needs is for some significant proportion of those sitting members to care more about the country than Trump.

Republicans most certainly have not "lost everything". They actually gained seats in the house, and even though they lost the senate by a razor thin margin, they did better than expected.
Well the Dems fault here. Defund the police is the reason they lost down ballot. Like if they didn't force Biden more left than he had to be, he would have still won because 1) he's not Trump and 2) covid recovery plan.

Even Biden pushing for this infrastructure plan may turn off people in 2022. Covid recovery was big enough goals to worry about this first 100 days. And he should have forced Moscow Mitch to reverse tax bill to help pay for covid recovery than the current infrastructure plan being payed by the rich. Once recovery done and have extra budget next year, then use it to pay for other things. But Biden going to have to touch military spending to help pay for his goals.

Doubt this virtue signaling will get anywhere. The GQP is still balls deep in orange julius
It was hilarious watching R- Rep. Dan Crenshaw on Meet the Press trying desperately to have it both ways. He says his constituents don't call him to talk about Trump, lets just forget it right? Except Todd brings up the ugly response Trump put out yesterday. He just keeps trying to talk over Todd about immigration and anything else to change the subject. Hey Asshole! Trump won't let you forget, if you won't let go of him.

Trump's utterance from yesterday.

“As our Country is being destroyed, both inside and out, the Presidential Election of 2020 will go down as THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY!” he said in a statement on his new blog, From the Desk of Donald J. Trump.

In my mind the GOP threw the last switch on the tracks welding it into far right only mode taking the crazy train down it on an irreversible course.

The Democrats barely won because:
1. just enough Democrats turned out to vote for the non-fascist party than brand new fascists turned out to vote for the fascist party and
2. approximately 1% of Republican voters decided that they weren't quite yet ready for a Republican dictator, but that their Representatives and Senators should continue shitting all over the country to really own the fucking libs.

Also: how does Biden force McConnell to reverse the tax bill? Or, why would McConnell reverse the tax cuts? McConnell's stated life mission is to cut taxes for the rich, and destroy the country as fast as possible when a Democratic President is in office. That's it, that's his schtick.

More than 100 Republicans will sign a letter Thursday threatening to create a third party if the GOP doesn't "break" with former President Trump, Reuters first reported.
Why it matters: Per Axios' Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei, Trump's grip on the GOP has gotten stronger since the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The Republican Party's "allegiance to Trump" as he continues to make false claims about his 2020 election loss has "dismayed" the group, according to Reuters.
  • Per the New York Times, the letter's preamble will state, "When in our democratic republic, forces of conspiracy, division, and despotism arise, it is the patriotic duty of citizens to act collectively in defense of liberty and justice."
  • The letter is due to be released one day after House Republicans are expected to vote on ousting Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from her position as conference chair....

Exciting times ahead... 😀

So in 2022 or 2024, we are going to see an election similar in effect of what Ross Perot caused in the 1992 and 1996 elections? Basically the Democrats winning due to a large split in the Republican votes?

No. Those 100 "Republicans" are nobodies that are simply RINOs now.

They are as irrelevant as the Lincoln Project grifters were/are.

The people in this list will just be dismissed as RINOs and ignored by the base. Fascism is clearly the leading political ideology of the GOP and it’s base of supporters at this point.

The people on this list didn’t have the courage to speak up or take action before the situation became irretrievably bad. They could have been fighting this since Newt but instead thought they could take advantage of the craziness for their own benefit until they couldn’t. Fuck’em all.

At least they are trying.

George...."P." Bush?

I guess that means GWB, and that murdering war-mongering creep being free to run his yap and come across as "reasonable"--this not being one of those times--is a travesty. As bad as Trump was, GWB has major scoreboard when it comes to brown (and other) people massacred in the name of gaining money for military contractors. Or just "oops, my bad, who knew there were no WMDs??" (other than everyone else in the world) Fuck him.

The GOP in the 90s went toward the cliff, this current crew is over it, climbed back up and jumped off again. Sadly a huge chunk of the country has followed them. Until this country is not gerrymandered to hell and until the EC that allows podunk states way too much power is done away with, the loony rubes will continue to screw over this country.

GPB and GWB are two different, but related people.

The only tax hike McConnell will ever agree to would be to start taxing illegal immigrants. Now that I think would be the only tax hike any Republican would agree to.
